I'm thinking of re a rebuild and new paint job over winter.

Can you paint Stainless?

Yep but you'll need to give a good mechanical key and use an acid etch primer.

Hi Darren,

 

Most of the SS used on our kit cars has a plastic film top coat to protect it.

 

That is why we only wash them with mild washing up liquid or spray window cleaner and don't polish them.

 

Your first task is thus to find out if your SS is plastic coated or not!

My S3 has no coating and is scratched, I found only silcon metal polish will make it shine

The scuttle will be painted, I was also told to key with wet and dry then etch prime

Yep key the surface, etch prime and then paint as normal.
