please please can anyone tell me why my series 2,2ltr pinto powerd car conks out after half an hour

on the road. turns over like the battery is flat then starts normally after 15 mins sitting.

I'm pretty sure its electrical and have heard a faulty coil can cause this.

Cheers

Richard

suspect some thing in the electrics is getting very hot.... coil would not affect turnover speed, unless its quite a high compression engine.. i would go round the engine bay checking condition and tightness of all the earths as a start?

Could be the distributor mechanical and or vacuum advance sticking at full advance.

At tickover there is not enough momentum to keep going.

When the engine is cranking it fires too early and slows the starter.

When cold the springs then do what they should and you run again.

Try disconnecting the vacuum advance.

If the engine is failing to turn over, as if the battery has gone flat. Then you probably have a bad earth from the battery to the engine and/or from the engine to the chassis. Have a look at the connections, you might find they are corroded in some way, that when hot introduce a high resistance.
