Dangerous Anti Thermal Wrap?

Hello, I am almost convinced to use anti thermal wrap envolving the outlet manifolds because of the heat under bonnet in my 2B+...but I read in internet that it could cause crashes in the manifolds weldings because of the higher temperature of the steel, what do you think about that??, any experience about that??.

Thank you very much, best wishes and Merry Christmas, David.

Hello Marcus, my english is not very good, I am from Spain, when you say the box gets warmer...do you mean gear box...or other part of the engine??.

Thanks a lot.

My manifold weld gave way in June. I took it to a stainless exhaust specialist who managed to weld it but said it had been caused by the exhaust wrap. He also said it does long term damage to the metals composition meaning it becomes brittle.

I've taken it all off now and all seems well.

Happy Christmas

Phil

I removed mine after maybe 20k miles only to find the stainless was very rusty with rust flaking off I am sure that in another 10k it would have fallen to bits. I wire brushed it down and never had any more trouble. I for one would never use wrap again, just get the air out of the engine bay quicker. BTW exhaust was RHE four branch so not the best quality.
