I have a one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Breather-Elbow-Takeoff-Ford-X-flow-681F-SOHC-Pinto-/151190669496?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2333aa88b8 instead of the PCV valve, connected to the first outlet, the second outlet is for the oil filler cap outlet or as in my case, as I don't have a take off from the cap, it will be blanked off.

the catch tank should only fill with oil when giving it a damn good thrashing red lining it unless you are taking it to those extremes it wont have oil in it just oily condensation and no it does not drain back

I've done 1000 miles in my car so far and have yet to see any oil in my catch tank which has a sight glass to within about 1/2" of the bottom. I have a breather filter on top of the tank and you can see the vapour coming out as the car warms up. My tank is mounted on the end of the passenger foot well, halfway up the engine.
