Electric Fan And Thermostat

Has anyone got an electric fan and thermostat for sale or recommend one? Lizzy is boiling over when I finish a run and the viscous fan doesn't seem to be helping at all in this situation.

I am not looking for the latest Kenlowe, just something that is going to be reliable and reasonably inexpensive.

Cheers Gents.

That is what I first thought, which is why I replaced the old one with the present new one. However, I will recheck it, I may have bought the wrong one. I still want to do something about the cooling though, there is no cowling to the viscous fan so it isnt working as well as it could.

Can you give more detail of when you get boiling over? If it is running hot but only boils over when you pull in and switch off having been giving it some welly(ie off a motorway into a service station) then that suggests heat soak. Not a fan problem but overall marginal cooling capacity.

That's pretty much it, except it runs ok while driving, not hot, Nigel.

Everything seems fine until I come to a stop and within minutes there is steam and water coming out of the expansion tank. The engine run fan is obviously giving little (a little far from the radiator and no cowling) and shuts off as soon as the engine does. It is while it is sitting there switched off that the boiling starts although you can see the temperature rising slowly if the engine is running.

Thanks for the advice, Nigel. I have looked at some of the previous posts and there are a few other checks I can make (the thermostat is the quickest easiest and cheapest) but I realise that it may need a different rad in there eventually. I am still looking for a fan though, it seems that going for an Ebay cheaptastic one isn't going to be up to the job so I will have to expand my horizons. Enjoy Peppa.

I have moved the radiator in my Exmo Infront of the suspension so it now sits at an angle, it seems to keep cool, wouldn't help with the heat sink / residual heat issue but it helps generally, cheap to do or free if you have oddments laying around as top hose is retained and bottom hose is just cut and extended to suit.

That may be an option in the future.

I agree with the above ref heat soak.

However if you still want a replacement fan I would recommend one from a Ford 1.8 diesel (Eg Escort). I use one in my RV8 Cobra and it does fine. Think I kght have a spare one in the shed if you're interested. I also have a spare screw-in thermostatic switch but I'd have to check the temperature range.

I messed about with all sorts of fans and things trying to keep cars cool, with a hood you need ventilation under the bonnet to let heat out ie bonnet vents, a better rad and definitely an electric fan. Viscous sap power and aren't efficient unless installed as Ford intended. Bought a kenlowe for this kit they are in a league of there own quality wise.
