Don't they tend to leak? I think I'm just looking to have the tin bit shortened,

No greater chance of that sump leaking compared to your sump once shortened, both will have been shortened and re-welded.

50/50 chance

Beg to differ. The alloy of the zetec silvertop was not chosen for its weldability and needs a skilled hand to stop it going porous. There have been several threads on locostbuilders re this problem with several suppliers. Not major but can be a pain. Welding the mild steel blacktop sump is easy enough for even me to do a oil-tight job. Not hard to stick in some baffles either.

I haven't seen any posts about problems with raceline sumps. They are a high quality specific one piece casting. If anyone had one that leaked I'm sure raceline would exchange it. Problems have happened with firms that cut and alter silvertop all alloy sumps as the Ford casting is more porous and distinctly lower quality.

I try to be neutral and Raceline stuff is pricey. Their zetec sump is the best IMO. Their water rail sucks IMO.
