Hello guys, got a bit of a problem. Replaced the bush at the bottom of my sliding pillar suspension. All went ok untill tightening up the top nut and sheered off the top :-( my cars due for Sva within the next month. Don't suppose anyone has any spare/ old sliding pillar suspension parts laying around after a conversion?

Please, any help would be great.

Thanks, Danny

Hi Danny,

a common mod was to replace the small bottom stud with a bigger one,

by drilling & tapping the shaft, and using a HT bolt instead.

Do you have a local engineering company who could do the same at the top?

Hi bob, I never new this at all. If I have no luck with getting a new sliding pillar then I guess I will have to give it a go as I have no other option with Sva being so close. Something always happens last minute doesn't it? Typical! Cheers though

Hi just incase you don't know (and i am remembering correctly) the chrome shaft is just the shaft off the sierra McPherson strut. In theory you could buy a replacement shock and butcher. Although had a feeling there are different size shafts. Any confirm?

But as bob says just get it drilled and tapped then you know it fits.

Hi Danny,

I also made up a plate to go on top of the wishbone.

I was worried the stud may slip in the slot.

the plate had one central hole, for the strut stud,

and two more for smaller bolts that went through the top wishbone

& locked it all solidly into place.

The SVA inspector (at that time) preferred that to just one stud in a slot.
