Starter Motor Earth

Hi,

Could somebody tell me the correct place to earth my starter motor for my new zetec engine or does it not matter as long it's a good clean earth connection. I was going to connect it to the engine mount bolt on the

Chassi.

It's just because I seem to remember reading somewhere on here that they connected this to the wrong place, however I could be wrong and making the whole thing up.

I have the day to myself today and hopefully will give the engine it's first start with a bit off luck, so if you here a bang it's probably my engine

The starter will earth through the engine. You need a large cable from -neg on battery and bolt it direct to the engine is block. Bigger the better with the cable, I would suggest welding cable, as the current draw on starting could be 100 amps

And as close to the start motor as possible e.g. on of the bolts that secures the starter!

current draw on a cold morning can be 1000A! a starter is typically 100A continuous (but only for a few seconds .........)

Good cable to the engine, and a lesser one to the chassis (as ford do.)
