after being stopped on the a46 in warickshire for doing 50mph in a 60mph zone on a nice wide part of single carridge way I have opted for the educational penalty I am hoping to learn how to get the hood quickly round a roundabout without going sideways oh and by the way I was driving a commercial vehicle at the time which by law is only allowed to do 40mph on a single carriageway so when you get stuck behind one for miles on end the driver is not doing it to wind you up it is the law so you can either try to get round it or get frustrated sitting behind it the law and ass springs to mind rant over goodbye ~@~!!"*

You clearly need to try harder. I was done for 102mph (in a 70) on the A46 near Kenilworth - £60 and 3 points.

Mind you it was in 1986. The police has follwed me for about 5 miles and when they finally stopped me, the copper asked me if the car had been modified to increase it's performance.

When I'd finished giving a run down of all the modifications, all he could say was "Well it seems work, maybe a bit too well though!!"

I elected to go to court and when they read out the police statement saying I was observed doing between 96 and 102mph in a Hillman Avenger, some in court actuallly laughed out loud!

I went on one of these courses....for doing 39 in a 30 limit.

I'd just left a 40 limit & the 30 signs were largely obscured by overgrown trees.

Anyway, the course was very good....I was astonished how little some of the younger attendees

knew about road law..

I did learn one thing I was never sure about...the national speed limit on a single lane road is 60

unless anything else is posted.

I always thought (& drove) it was 50..

So the course taught me I could legally drive faster!!

Result...

Did one 15 months ago, 58 in a 60, towing the caravan, set cruise at 58 so as not to be bothered by the 56 MPH HGV's.

The b*****y camera had a height reader on it and read the back of the van as a HGV. !!!!!!

One point to be aware of is, if they don't tell you during the coarse, you must tell your insurance provider.

Cost me another £40.00 with Admiral. :aggressive: :aggressive:

I don't get it.

If you were only doing 58 in a 60 and your weren't and HGV, why did you get a ticket? Surely you were under the speed limit so I would have thought it was ok.

Of course, I've never towed a caravan, so it would be enlightening to find out WHY you had a ticket.

Towing is Max 50mph in a 60 zone.

Max of 60mph in a 70 zone.

You got it in one, :bad: :bad: :bad:

The closing speech of the course was the bit about "telling" and at renewal, with "Admiral" there was a box to tick, question to answer re "awareness course"

So trying to be cute and avoid being hustled by the HGV boys cost me.

The one that got me is the only one in Lincolnshire with the height reader doh.

So do you have to tell insurance then?

I'm rather lucky as last month was going down a road i haven't been on before 30mph zone and saw the Police van with the lovely black window facing my way. Looked down and speedo reading 34/35mph. Thankfully haven't had a letter. Checked with a gps and i seem to be reading high anyway so prob actually around 32/33mph so think i've got away with it. Must pay more attention.

Karma definitely played its part though as i had been driving well below the speed limit all the way up until that point.

Also 60mph limit for towing always surprises me as quite often big 4x4's pass me on the motorway pulling caravans and trailers! and i am not doing 59mph.

I attended one of these courses last year. Everyone passed the course. Even the Asian guy who needed an interpretator who turned up 3/4 of the way through the course and the Chinese guy who had obviously spent all night at the Casino as he was asleep through most of the course. He needed an interpretator as well I think the only words he spoke to him were WAKE UP!

Interesting that, I did one about 18 months ago and they specifically said you don't have to tell your insurance and it will not affect your policy....

Mine was the same.

There was a flurry of news articles about this about a year back, though don't think it was resolved.

If I am asked about it I will find another insurance company, told the other half to do his when they wanted to increase her insurance because of me and the course.
