Individual Rear Lights

Does anyone know what has to be taken into account when fitting individual rear lights, rather than the RHE supplied brick.

 

Stuff like spacing - does the indicator have to be at least 20mm away from the stop light, etc.

Your best bet is to get a copy of "kit cars and the law" published by the magazine company who do "Kit car" (and advertised in that mag all the time). It has lots of SVA related articles (though most are out of date now really), but more importantly it has a cut down and easily digestable version of the SVA regs and the vehicle lighting requirements. It costs about a tenna I think, and will tell you everything you need to know, and more.

I Have a SVA manual and a copy of the "kit cars and the law" also have a copy of another sva and law in laymans terms. I have just advitised the manual for a £10 if interested. can send you copy of others with it if you want. They are really helpfull. Give exact positions for lights. I know from my Sva taht they pay very close attention to the positions.

I cant see it being a problem as long as you follow the regulations.

 

Indicators. must be a matched pair.

Within 400mm from outside edge of car.

Minimum seperation of 500mm.

Maximum height 1500mm.

Minimum height 350mm.

Warning light required on dash.

 

Rear lights. must be a matched pair.

Minimum seperation of 500mm.

Maximum height 1500mm.

Minimum height 350mm.

Warning light required on dash

 

Fog light. One is obigatory. two optional

In centre or off side

Max height 1000mm

Min height 250mm

Seperation from stop light 100mm

Warning light required on dash

If two are fitted they must be a matched pair

Each side of the car centre line

Minimum seperation of 400mm.

Maximum height 1500mm.

Minimum height 350mm.

 

And dont forget you must have two reflectors.

Must be a matched pair

Within 400mm from car edge.

Minimum seperation of 600mm.

Maximum height 900mm.

Minimum height 350mm.
