Hello all,

Merry Christmas firstly!

I have a 2.0 pinto attached to a type 9 gear box and am thinking of fitting a new pedal box instead of the donor... Something like the following....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kit-Car-Cable-Clutch-Pedal-Box-Rally-Race-Performance-Track-OBPKC011-/121233859126?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c3a19e236

Firstly... Has anyone done this and can show me pictures of how well it fits in the foot well and is it still suitable for someone of a tall ish height?

Secondly, has anyone fitted a hydraulic clutch? If so how is it done/what parts will I need, with specific to the gear box end, again any pictures appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

What's wrong with the doner one ??

I acquired a part built 2b and was missing virtually all the brake parts, thus looking to use new parts plus I have some of the elements for new brakes from a previous kit, but this (the previous kit) also had a cable clutch.

a clutch is for namby pambies once bought an engine from a scrap yard to put into my mk2 escort it already had a clutch on it being young and foolish I just chucked the engine straight in turned out the clutch was seized so drove it for two weeks with no clutch hill starts are a bit tricky but it eventually freed itself

hydraulic clutches on a type 9 are possible i believe that Burton power do an adapter to fit the mondeo slave to the type 9 it is essentially a spacer with bolt holes to secure the slave and the spacer to the bellhousing. the big advantage of fitting a hydraulic clutch is on engines with the exhaust on the drivers side as it has no clutch cable to melt. there is also often very little room between the clutch pedal and the gearbox clutch arm.....thus a cable would have to be routed through to tight an angle for the clutch to work as it should, resulting in a heavy action and rapid cable wear.

floor mounted pedal box's tend to give more leg room for taller drivers as they usually have shorter pedals, bracing the box sufficient for use is not hard most builders tend to massively over engineer the brackets or plan for them......then they get depressed about the work involved and dont bother.

if fitting some brackets to mount the floor pedal box seems too daunting then perhaps owning a kit car isn't right for you. I give much the same advise to folks when they ask about what kit car to buy when they then ask daft questions about which garage to go to to buy spares.

I fitted one on my 2b. It is a OPB floor mounted one with dual brake cylinders and it was made to take a clutch cable, not a hydraulic clutch. Vey snug fit, but not difficult at the same time. Got a rs2000 clutch cable as they come with a eyelet fixing on the end. Drilled and put a bolt through the clutch pedal and put the bolt through the eyelet on the cable. Very easy and although an expensive route to take, very pleased with the results now....

I agree with CMA where do you put your left foot with floor mounted pedals? I always drove with left foot under pedal up against firewall otherwise you have to keep leg bent with nowhere to rest your foot, ok for track but try it on a 200 plus mile motorway run.

I wasn't suggesting you were the type Tractor, just making the point that "off the shelf" solutions for kit cars either dont exist or are VERY expensive. but a little effort will often get results......
