New Camera Thingy

Just got the SJ4000 (go pro rip off cheapo) camera. And in true kit car style I have uploaded my first clip.

Albeit 30 seconds long and attached to the wing mirror, but here goes

Thanks for posting. I didn't know about these cameras and they look to be good value, especially as there seems to be a 'car mode' to continuously record on a loop. If yours is the wifi version can you confirm that it has the 'car mode' as I've only seen it referred to on the non wifi one. Thanks Malcolm

The wi-fi version does have car mode, but you can't operate it in car mode via the wi-fi as it's programmed to start up and keep running as long as it is receiving power from the ignition being on.

For the money they are really good cameras, probably equivalent to a GoPro Hero 2.5, LCD screen on the back is handy but you loose this in wi-fi mode as it just displays a wi-fi symbol and what the camera is seeing is shown on your smartphone, which can also operate all the functions on the camera including the full menu which takes a bit of scrolling through on the camera itself.

Here's a short clip from my trip to Millau in October, youtube ruins the resolution, it's pin sharp when played back straight from the camera or memory card, hit the settings cog in the bottom right corner and select 1080hd and you'll get the general idea.

The non wifi does have car or "cyclic" see here

 

One of the features that the SJ4000 has is Car Mode. This feature works with the MicroUSB cable plugged into your car’s power outlet so that when you start your car and the camera turns on, the camera begins recording. And with the MicroUSB is plugged into the camera, the battery life is sustained all the while the camera is plugged into your car’s power outlet. In conjunction with the Car Mode, the SJ4000 has a Cyclic Record function of 3 minutes, 5 minutes and 10 minutes. What this function does is let the camera record for the selected time whether 3, 5, or 10 minutes and then after the time is up, it saves the file and starts a new video file after that duration time is met. Then when the SD card reaches its full capacity, the camera deletes the oldest file and continues to record and process continues. This is a useful feature to have should you need some sort of evidence in a traffic accident or altercation. You would have video of the incident recorded on the SD Card as helpful evidence so there would be no second guessing as what to what happened since you could just review the recorded footage.
