Are there any Ford 2.8i specialists within the club?

I've just acquired a new vehicle with a 2.8i up it. And I'm struggling to make it start without having to faff with air flow metre and the like. It has been stood for four years mind you.

Had mine for over 10 years before I sold it..... Few things are critical if it retains the Bosch k-jetronic manual fuel injection. Fuel pressure can't be low... Once it is running does it rev fully..... If so fuel pressures should be good. Does it start badly from cold or hot? If so 7th injector in plenum could be suspect if cold. I would seriously suspect the small device at the front of the engine called the warm up regulator. They can be a bugger. Relieve the pressure in one of the pipes and lift pipes away and check fuel gauze filter under the banjo. See if clogged. Clean....... DO NOT press too hard in the fuel enrichment screw . The one with that need the long Allen key. It can damage the fuel distributor. Injectors are probably gummed up. Get some injector cleaner through it or ultimately get them sonically cleaned.. New ones are a fortune... If you like I have the jetronic diagnostics guide somewhere . Pm me if you would like a copy.

Cheers. Lee

First things first mate.

Treat the basics clean all electronic connections. Spark plugs, fuel filter. Try not to disturb any settings as it was probably running well before laying up.

Take the multi plugs off the ecu and clean them up.

Cars standing around for years in cold damp garages, or worse still under tarps suffer badly with bad electrical joints.
