well after looking at the options I decided to go for pot luck and buy a second hand gearbox will be fitting it tomorrow after tracking down a drive shaft oil seal and might aswell throw a new clutch kit in

also have a happy helper to lift gearbox in keith has agreed to help

My brothers merc vito did 260000 miles had no problems with it other than tank fuel pump at 200k

just the luck of the draw DanE as usual its the bad luck for me

keith turned up this morning so we shot off to get a new clutch kit from euro car parts got the gearbox on by 1pm then keith had to go so carried on it took me about 1hour just to get one drive shaft back in I was swearing quite a lot because i had just dropped the lower ball joints out which is where the problem was trying to get that back in whilst wrestling with drive shaft but still got the other side to look forward to

at last got the van finished today just been out for a test drive and its perfect so now I can get started on my winter mods on the zero now I don't have to use it for work

you will have to join the waiting list hopefully I can get everybody serviced by next spring that's if the van don't F up again

I was a bit concerned about buying a second hand gearbox off flebay but after the test drive think I might have bought a good one a bit of luck at last

been out for a longer drive in the van got up a bit of speed doing 70mph thought I would overtake so put my foot down and nothing happened so dropped a gear and overtook wasn't till later when I was coming back that I looked at rev counter at 80mph I was only doing 2000rpm with the old gearbox I would be doing 3000rpm and before at give ways I would slow to a crawl put it in second then pull away no problem but now I have to drop to 1st gear to get revs to pull away I am not complaining the lower revs are much better just got change driving style to match new gearbox

i drive a new transit 1850 rpm at 70 ,doesn't like pulling below 50 loaded in top

it was already good on fuel Ian its a 1.9 -6 speed

I used to regularly use 6th gear now I will have to use it as an overdrive only
