Hi,

I am after a recon 2.0 pinto engine as mine is too far gone to economically repair. I have found a company called specialised engines in Essex that sell recon engines from £600. Has anyone had any experience of using this company before?

Any advice is welcome???

Cheers,

Sean

I dont have personal experience of them, but they did get a bad press some while ago

from someone I know & trust for their modified heads.

Try & find someone who is a member of the Federated Engine Rebuilders (FER).

I have used Haynes Engineering & highly recommend them

eBay. Zetec crate motors around 750 850 quid Mark.

That's engine and all you need to make it run.

Standard engines but can be easily tuned at a later date.

Quieter, smoother and more reliable than the old iron horse.

INCOMING.................🚀

As Dan says it don't finish with the engine cost ! exhaust , plenum , throttle bodies ,air filter ,ecu upgrade, fly wheel and clutch mods+++ so £750 becomes nearer 3K mick   :acute:

My C20xe engine cost £300 but overall it cost £2K+ to get it up & running.

But it can be done cheaper....I bought almost everything new.

I agree if you can afford it, go for a newer lump.

You will end up with 150bhp + rather than about 110

It's a big debate on this site and the many others flying around the Web, but I'd have to agree to swap it out for a newer engine. A zetec will give a load of usable torque across the whole rev range.More than even a well tuned Pinto. Only drawback is inlet and exhaust are on different sides. A Duratec being the later design has inlet and exhaust on same side as Pinto. Both engines are proven to give better fuel consumption than a pinto too.

Cost. Skill. Time available. Space available all need to be considered too.

Last time I rebuild a Pinto the cost was around £1500. This does include parts and machine costs. The "old" exhaust and twin 40's were used still. Gave 2.1 ltrs and 150 BHP on rollers. ( if memory is correct).

As a comparison either silvertop or blacktop zetec with £1500 spent on it today will achieve more and a much better torque curve.

Almost cheaper to buy a complete new car. My series 7 with c20xe engine cost 2300, rewire and various bits and pieces over a couple of years and it probably owes me 3500 total. Mind you I am quite mean when it comes to parts, don't mind spending a few hours searching for the best deal but I won't use rubbish if i can possibly avoid it.

You can do the conversion for resonably good money. What I was meaning was I'd still budget for £1500 for a very well built pinto. That money spent on a conversion will get a zetec in and with change. Even looking today ebay threw up several zetec at low cost. Just do your homework and expect what you pay for. But there is plenty of advice on here from people that have done it before.

Hi Sean,

If you are interested in doing a Zetec conversion, I have one in my Superspec. You are more than welcome to pop over and have a look and take some measurements if you have good fabrication skills to make you own (new) engine mounts for the Zetec.

A cuppa is obligatory as well!

Let me know

Al
