Tax-Free Robin Hoods?

It's not really surprising when you consider they expect 10,000 cars to fall into the free tax this year over the 15 years (from 40 to 25 years)this would cost the government 10,000 x 15 x £230 or 34.5million, so it is not going to happen when it is easy money and with the mileage we do it is not going to cause any expense.

this is something that the DVLA are looking into, they are looking at the records and are slowly getting round to insisting that rebuilt cars and that includes kit cars, are reclassified as "new" builds unless the build date it self is over 40 years old they want the car to go for IVA and are insisting on a Q plate....its starting with the pre war classics but they intend for it to apply to all cars eventually.

they even propose that all parts fitted to tax exempt cars MUST be also age appropiate all brakes suspension everything must also be of 40 year old manufacture......

this whole issue is arround the obsession this country has with the age related numberplate if we scrap the age letter and use a system like most other countrys then the age of the car is much easier to determine for rebuilds and kitcars et al ....it will be recorded on the log book....if it gets a rebuild (i think we can assume that a shiney new looking 35+ yr old car has had a rebuild unless you can produce photographic evidence) then when it goes back on the road after a long lay off it gets recorded.......i.e. untaxed from april 1982 until 2016.

there are cases of prewar classic cars having to get reregistered (Bugatti owners were amongst the first) and are now lumbered with "Q" plates and an age on the car of only a few years and not the 70+ they are claiming.....A friend who works for the DVLA claim that it is a topic of conversation amongst them over the coffee breaks, and they are of the opinion that heavily modified cars and totally rebuilt cars are not true classics and deserve to be treated the same as new cars.

The DVLA eventually caught up with a friend of mine, Andy Frost.

He had been pushing his luck with these 2 (1?) cars over tax free status.

for many years. Eventually being sponsored by Vauxhall led to too much publicity, which

even the DVLA couldnt miss.

Its now on a Q plate.

To be fair there can't be much left of the original car but it makes you wonder how much time and effort is put into hounding people to get there cars re registered or taxed. Waste of money in my opinion when there hundreds of thousands of scroats driving around in untaxed, uninsured vehicles without mots. Money would be better spent chasing these. Insane performance in that vauxhall though.

Here are a couple of typical government moves.

While serving in the army, Maggi gave us all a massive 17'/, pay rise.

Lots of us actually ended up with less money.

She took off us what Wilson had given to us and gave it back as a pay rise under her own name.

Lots of allowances were lost and charges were put on. Including the dreaded council tax..

Soldiers families serving in England were complaining about family's abroad were getting overseas allowance but they were not getting it.

They wanted a fair accross the board system so they could have more money.

The solution they came up with was to take away lots of the overseas allowance so most servicemen and their families suffered vastly.

The people serving at home didn't gain at all. Everyone's cost of living was raised by rent and messing rates. Once again nobody gained in the end.

I've always found it better not to advertise any so called perks as they usually always get taken away.
