2B Wishbone Conversion

Can anyone recommend a place to buy a 2B wishbone conversion kit or recommend a company that do them.

The car is presently unbuilt but it is of the sliding pillar variety.

Any advice greatly received.

+1 for steamer, (red seven engineering)

He might be a little busy at the mo but if that's fact, it's well worth the wait.

In the meantime you could buy the latest kit from GBS so you have it ready.

The latest kit allows for a much improved caster angle.

I did my own. Bought the wishbones and fabricated the rest. Quite simple really you just have to make sure the wheel base is the same on both sides. Build in adjustment for caster so you can do final adjustment once you have it set up. It is unlikely you will get the same on each side during the build.

That's true on the 2b

If you can't weld it's possible you either know a good welder or can find a mobile one.

Don't forget you are playing with your own life so if you are net totally confident, help is usually always around.

GBS do this kit. youll need to cut off the pillars and weld these on. red 7 did mine a few months ago.

youll also need some hubs as the original pillar ones wont fit..

youll may also need some new arch brackets dependant on what you have.

don't know if the kit comes with the steering rack extensions..maybe red 7 can help here too.

the car will be approx 6 inch wider at the front with this kit.

It will also ride and handle soooooo much better.

It looks like that kit doesn't include the steering arm extensions that are also required?

 

The kit in the GBS link gives you a fantastic start on the conversion, however due to the very large tolerances that the 2b tubular chassis were originally manufactured to, no 2 chassis's are exactly the same and so don't expect the front cross members within the GBS kit to fit straight on without modifications.

Steamer is correct when he says no two chassis are the same. When I took the sliding pillar of mine the wheel base was 15mm shorter on the drivers side than on the passenger side. I decided not to go for the GBS kits as it was expensive and the top cross member was, in my opinion too intrusive. By using individual brackets for each joint allowed for greater flexibility.

But as you acknowledgement there are no two chassis alike, would the cross members be there to support all chassis, some, maybe, weaker than your own.

 

I have to say 15mm is actually quite good, the Ford Escort FWD had an accepted 35mm difference side to side, and I have seen 2B at 45mm
