You know, none of the first bit of the post makes no sense to most of us, Dino?

Could a saved yourself a lot of spell checking.

Besides, is Dot 4 from the shelves of Morrisons any worse than the liquid gold sold at Halford?

I've always been using dot3 in the past. But things have evolved and recommendations are to use dot5.

Whereas the sales suggest dot4 is the favourite.

It would be interesting to find out what everybody else is using and is it being used for general driving or racing.

Or do some people change it between track days and road days (as per tyres).

..... Hey at least I woke you all up and got the forum lively again :)

Ian, have you got sweet or salted?

In last few years I've mostly used Halfords own brand DoT 4. I've just looked on site but mines not there. They do have Comma @ £20 for 5 ltrs tho. About same price, hence why I drive to curcuit, bleed brakes before and after. At that price its worth it.

As CMA suggests. DOT 5.1

Good for track and road. Will mix with other mineral make ups.

DOT 5 I would not use unless manufacturer states, or system dried out and then thoroughly bled through.

You would then more or less condemned to using nothing but this stuff and make sure any repairers are aware of what you have in.

Little bloody nuisance buggers. Top trumps.

Dot 5 boils at too low a temp for hard / racing use I am told?

and the bubbles that form don't dissipate back into the fluid so if you over heat it you have to change it on the plus side it doesn't soak up water, used by a lot of classic car owners to prevent seized callipers/wheel cylinders etc.
