Conversion Rear Drums To Discs

I've got a Mark 3 the donor for which was a 1986 Sierra. It has discs up front and drums at the rear and I would like to convert the rear to discs. I know there's not much wrong with drum brakes but I'd like to convert anyway. How do I go about it?

Many thanks

You need to get the rear conversion kit enabling the fitment of the calipers.

You need to know the offset of the mounting holes and the disc diameter plus the caliper sizes.

If you go all out and buy a new kit complete with all parts needed you will still need to know the exact car your rear end came off.

1600 saloon or estate upwards right throughout the range of sierra's.

Not really worth it unless tou find somebody that is breaking a car.

Do not over brake the rears as you will end up spinning nicely in any direction.

Always carefully match the rears to the front.

Read through the thread of Dino's. Top trumps brakes.

I've done it, but went down a slightly different route & had some caliper adaptor brackets machined at work as I decided not to use sierra parts due to the 'cosworth' tax & used focus parts instead (fraction of the price, parts still current so easily available & they are actually the same discs used on the sierra anyway). I will try & post some pics later as I'm struggling to get them to upload at the moment.

Great work.

Any chance of getting some brackets made for mine.

Mine are 9" drums but obviously don't know what yours are.

Willing to pay for them off course.

Mine had 9" drums & I just used the hubs that were already fitted.

I did change the studs to slightly longer ones as the disc is slightly thicker than the drum & also I have alloys - Focus again, the donor had steels.

I'm running braided hoses - made to suit at work & the handbrake cable is a shortened/modified focus one with cables routed from behind..
