Thanks alan, I have been looking at your blog and VERY interesting.

If I do decide to go for it then one thing I want to change would be the dash, I dont like the look of the single display and much prefer the individual dials you see in ther cars of this ilk

Good news that dvds and wiring is available.

Keep you all updated.

Maybe big reveal in a few days.

A Superspec kit has just appeared on E-Bay with some nice photos. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROBIN-HOOD-7-KIT-CAR-SUPER-SPEC-FACTORY-KIT-ALMOST-FINISHED-VERY-LITTLE-TO-DO/263611698703?hash=item3d607b4e0f:g:yI8AAOSwvAda1J1r

Shows you what it looks like under the bonnet. What it doesn't point out is that getting a 2003-era kit through the IVA will be a nightmare and very expensive :) Stay with the fully registered one.

I am happy to be corrected but I think you would be very lucky to get away with less than £1000 to finish off the car and get an IVA pass (with the almost certainty of a re-test after the first fail).

Ok so I'm off to see the car today (all being well) are there any things I should look out for apart from the noisy clutch as mentioned previously.

I'm a little worried it only has a couple of months MOT but I suppose thats a bit of a bargaining chip, it had a couple of advisories on previous MOT

Offside Rear wheel bearing has slight play (2.6.2)

Nearside Rear Front suspension has slight play in a pin or bush of an upper wishbone inner bearing (2.5.B.1a)

Could these be expensive if they haven't been done?

bit confused by the second one

Nearside Rear Front suspension has slight play in a pin or bush of an upper wishbone inner bearing (2.5.B.1a)

Are they saying the top wishbone on the front of the car has play in the rear bush? If so that is a relatively easy job. New bushes around £10 http://www.kitspares.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=630. Just knock out the old ones and press in the new.

Wheel bearing on the back is just standard sierra stuff so again nothing too difficult, for a garage to do. If you do it yourself --- from memory the torque setting on the wheel nut is pretty high so you will need a very long bar. Certainly needs to be undone with the car on the ground or you will pull the car off the stands.

I think they are ok. They are run by GBS sportscars which took over Robin Hood Engineering some years back. They are the most likely to have the specific bits for RH cars such as the bushes. For anything stock ford or rover etc i'd just go to a local motor factor or Eurocarparts etc. Although sierra parts are becoming a little more specialised these days.

This site http://nw.rhocar.org/parts.htmis very useful for parts numbers as a lot of bits are common to other cars.

Ebay is always useful, i know the chap who ran RH was selling off a load of old stock a while back so i bought some bushes off there much cheaper than kitspares but you might have to do a bit of searching.

Agree 100%. Although I have never had a reply from them if I use the Contact Form on their page, and they do tend to quite expensive. A personal visit is always best, but they are too far away from you,

And as Andy pointed out in an earlier post Rimmer Bros are the 'goto' people for all things Rover-related. Otherwise E-Bay is always a mine for older parts.

If I catch you before you go, check the oil filter. The clearance under a Superspec is terrible (many of us have fitted sump guards as you will have seen on my blog). Make sure that it doesn't protrude below the sump. My car has been fitted with a remote filter to avoid any problems. Ask the ownwer if he has done anything about the sump clearance.

First thing to do - Join the Club :)

Second thing to do - Get you and the car to the Stoneleigh Kit Car show 6/7 May. There you will meet lots of other owners including at least 4 other Superspec owners.
