Armrests

I was out with a Caterham owner a couple of weeks ago (sorry  ) and he had these cool armrests fitted to his doors:

They hook over the cockpit edge, so double as straps to hold the door in. I'm planning on something similar for my doors and was thinking of using a sheet of ally, cut to shape and covered with foam and vinyl - does that seem like an ok way to do it or is there a better material to use?

I'm thinking about the ally really - would PVC-type stuff be better? I just remember having trouble bending that, when making wind deflectors...

For that sort of money I'll run along side & hold a cushion for you.

OR

PVC pipe of similar diameter to diagonal of frame, cut length wise -- cover with closed cell foam ( camping mat/ floor tile/ pipe insulation ) then cover in leather-look vinyl or real leather.

The covers on Florins armrests are a sleeve which fits the inside AND outside of the base pipe & insulation ( think black pudding shape -- internal & external "C" )

This will fit over the chassis rail without visible fixings ( maybe use press studs to hold door )

I used signmakers plastic sheet that you can worm with a hot air gun and fold once cool it holds its shape and has enough spring to clip over the sides.

I then glued yoga mat over it and finished off with grey vinyl looks great

if you want to be wafted about in the lap of luxury Neil buy a Bentley

Buy a Bentley? BUY?! Don't BUY a Bentley, BUILD one...which is what I am doing, piece by piece :-)

Also, I find that on a long drive, the vibrations from resting my arm on the cockpit edge makes my arm go numb (yes, I know, 1st world problems :-) ).
