GAZ Shock Adjustment

Hi,

I've never adjusted suspension before, can anyone help?

Car is on the road and handles fine.  I have it booked in for a rolling road session in two weeks and they will also setup my geometry however at the moment the car is very low at the rear.  From what I rear it should be 115 and 125 mm at the front bottom of chassis and 125 and 135mm at the rear, measured just in front of the rear wheel arch.

Mine is way too low at the back at the rear its 65mm from the road to the floor pan (its a lowered floor pan).  Am I measuring the correct point as per the attachment?

What is the best way to adjust the shocks?  I have the GAZ ones purchased from GBS and I did not get a C spanner with the kit I assume I need one?  Should I adjust with the wheel still on or off?

I want to get this done by a pro but I want to have it roughly correct before I take it in and an idea of where it should be as well.

Thanks.

Dan

Measure to the side rail where the side panel attaches, not the floor pan. This way measurement with or without the lowered floor would be the same. At the front of the rear wing is the correct placement. Raise the weight of the car off the spring to make the adjustment. Best with the correct C spanner tool. Be careful not to damage the threads. If height is low the locking ring may have loosened and you can make the adjustment with your hands. Can be done without removing the wheel but more difficult. Unweighted spring, adjust (tightening the spring raises the car body), lower car, give car a bounce, remeasure height.

Hope this helps?

Spot on thanks, makes sense to me - I'll give it a go.  From the side rail its 100mm, still too low but now I know how to adjust should be a doddle as long as I take my time.  Hoping I can do it without C spanner as otherwise its another tool I need to buy 😂

They are not expensive tools and a good investment. Get the hinged ones that can be used on more than 1 size ring.  If you have a locking ring you want to get 2 tools. The ATR shocks/dampeners have a locking ring, not sure about the GAZ. If GAZ have a Allen screw to lock the ring, Make sure the little rubber tip is at the bottom or you will damage the threads. Try not to use a screwdriver and hammer to turn the ring. Too much chance of slipping and causing damage.
