Hi all I have recently bought a 2b can anyone tell me if there is anything missing from the bottom of the suspension as I am guessing there should be a bush or spring there but not sure

Hi Robert - It's difficult to see from the pic but it looks like you have a black rubber bump stop fitted already? It may be that needs renewing if it's making too much of a bang.

It's normal for there to be a gap when the weight of the car pushes the hub up the shaft so it's not missing anything in the 'gap' if that's what you mean?

Cheers

Hi Tony, thanks for your reply. So there is meant to be a rubber ! As you say the picture is not that clear but there is nothing on the bottom. do you know if this rubber is available to buy or do I need to make one as I have searched the net with no luck at present??

regards Bob

Hi Rob, Is it possible to get a better picture of that area at all?

If that's not a black rubber stop sandwiched with 2 washers sitting on top of the fixed arm,  what is that dark area at the bottom of the pillar?

People have used all sorts of things to make the bump stop for a sliding pillar. Some suggestions are anti-vibration mounts with a hole drilled through - right up to using an old bit of conveyor belt cut and drilled. See example link below:-

Would definitely be interested to know what's at the bottom of your strut though.

Cheers

Tony

Hi Robert I belive that I sent some pictures over to Tony a few years ago.

Here is how I modded mine at the time I belive the bump stop that you are enquiring about would be like mine that was used from an Escort front leg.

Hi Tony and martin

The ring on the bottom turned out to be a locating bush, which seems to work well.

With your help I made a rubber bush out of a anti-vibration rubber. It works a treat!

Thanks for your help again.

Regards Bob
