Starter Motor

I think my Starter motor is on its way out or it is not powerful enough to turn engine over.  I was going to replace it with a high torque starter motor.  I do not know what type of gearbox I have joined onto my 2.0 Pinto?  

How do I find out which I have?

Looking at your car and the age of it I would say it has a type 9 gearbox fitted.

Check if the Bell housing and gearbox are cast iron in looks if so then it is a type 9.

The MT 75 is aluminimium.

type 9 reverse is down, left & forward.

MT75 is different, IIRC down, right, back.

Have a go at re-furbing the starter solenoid first, a lot of poor output problems of starters is down to the main contacts being burnt/pitted.
