Corrosion

I've promised my 5-year old granddaughter she can have my car when I pop my clogs (provided she trains as an engineer, of course).   I said that based on the fact that with a stainless steel chassis and body it should last forever.   However, there is one weak point in the car which is the Sierra suspension trailing arms, and although I rarely venture out in the rain and keep the car garaged, I assume that it will eventually rust away.   Is there any mileage in applying some sort of preservative/underseal ?   If so, any recommendations ?

Great idea --- I have a daughter leading an engineering department in telecom masts -- (other one is an accountant so not to disappointed) Both are standing in line for Florin.

Many years ago Ziebart was the treatment of choice to prevent the rust bug & I suppose there are similar treatments available to-day.  Are the rear arms a sealed box? Can't remember --- but if in a dry well vented garage corrosion should be very slow.  

An engineer will be able to make a new wish-bone assembly -- the biggest problem in the distant future of your demise will be PETROL to run your kit.

I had my original 1974 Escort Mexico Ziebarted when I first bought it new in 1974. I sold it on with 20K on the clock about 10 or 12 years ago and it is still I believe rust free and won Mexico of the year about 2 years ago, as I still remain in contact with the new owner. He decided to remove all of the Ziebart wax coating from the engine bay as he said he wanted it to look "NICE" I rest my case rust never looks NICE 🙂 

WAXOYL is probably the equivalent of Ziebart and as anyone will know who has come into contact with WAXOYL or ZIEBART it never dries or cures it is part of its properties that if it becomes damaged or abraded it creeps back on its own to continue protecting from the elements. Stops any squeaks too if you had any 😉
