Registering for a number plate

Can you apply on line for a number plate.  Been on the goverment web site but it looks like you have to download the forms and post them.

Am I missing something?

What do you mean, 'apply'? You mean register the car after IVA? Or you talking about buying a private plate for an already-registered car? 

I bought a private plate a few years ago and it was all done online even then.

No, I do not have a plate of anysort.  It just passed the iva, when I go online it looks like you have to do it the old fashioned way, by post, surely not in these days?

Yeah, sorry, all on paper. And you can't even download and print some of the forms - one of them is that carbon copy stuff that has to be sent to you first before you fill out and send it back. 

Be thankful you can do it at all - far more difficult in some other countries.

When we had passed IVA we went back to the " build up inspection building" in Poole for registration & payment of first taxation disc.  Is there no separate inspection these days? 

Is it all done at IVA depot?

No build up inspection since they closed the local offices.
