Oil Catch Tank

Recommended Posts

After fitting bike carbs to my 2,0 pinto i fitted a burtons elbow valve into the crankcase in place of the original breather and piped it to inlet of catch tank, the outlet of catch tank is just vented below car, however on first journey out I was left with a puddle of oil under car and dripping back home to garage, the Oil catch tank is virtually level with the crankcase elbow and the catch tank was empty.

Should the catch tank be fitted lower than elbow or higher? one friend says lower but a diagram I saw on this forum from Burtons had it fitted above rocker cover height

I used to have one fitted about level with the rocker cover.  I only ever got fumes from the outlet but the tank did need emptying every thousand miles or so.
