Hi All,

I am after some advice mostly second doubting myself as it’s been some years since I have done a cam belt.

I have replaced one today on my blacktop, cam tool fitted fine and crank locked etc no issues. When I was spinning it over after double checking everything locked in tool wise I seen that the tensioner kept moving and went slack on the belt and tight again. Belt was tensioned up fine then moved the adjustment when turning it over.

The tensioner has in and out movement towards the head and tensioner moves tension.

i can’t remember seeing this before like I said been 10 years since I have done a belt. 
have I missed something?

That definitely doesn't look right to me.  I'm no expert on blacktops but I'm sure that the bearing shouldn't move like that.  Are you missing a washer or spacer from the tensioner assembly ?   I certainly wouldn't start it until you've sorted it out.  

I'm sure somebody on here will be able to answer this better than me but you may have to wait a while for a reply because people don't visit the site as often at this time of year.

I double checked the box and everything as i didn’t think it should have that movement and the fact the belt goes completely slack when turning it over didn’t seem right as it’s loosing tension.

Did you loosen the cam pulleys before you fitted the belt?

Yes then retighten after the fitment of the new belt 

After you fitted the belt or after you tensioned it?

Basically fit belt, tension, the tighten cam pulleys.

Exactly that process spun it over tools locked in place but when spinning it over that’s when I saw the tensioner tension arm moving and the belt went slack when the tensioner position wasn’t in the house as I use to call it. 
I spoken to the car parts place this afternoon they haven’t seen it either but will take it back and I have ordered a gates belt kit instead of an INA kit.

i have even dry mocked it all up when I took the new stuff off and other than popping the tensioner arm in the cut out of the head I can’t see what I have might of missed.
