I've received this message from Wilksy - is there anybody out there who can help him with rebuilding one of these carbs ?

Thanks,  Steve

DFTH Carb - Help required.

Idiots mistake - I have stripped down a 30/34 DFTH ex 1987 Sierra 2.0 carb to give it a good and thoroughly needed clean as well as modify it to run on basic engine electrics and manual choke - yes I know not the best solution  but necessary funds wise to get this twice frustrated project mobile for an IVA.

Idiot that I am I didn't make note or take pictures when I stripped this gunk laden piece of history.  Now looking more presentable and re-gasketed I'm scratching my head on the operating spindle build sequence. The Haynes Sierra manual is about as useful and informative as a chocolate fire guard whilst DFTH exploded views on the net appear to vary, now having got Webers exploded view its better but like the others doesn't cover the small part details of the operating shaft.

I have worked out the cams and levers and have a good understanding of the spacer collars and springs. Where I'm totally stuck is the positioning in the assembly sequence of the small profile bore washers and discs which appear to hold the collars / cams / levers in their required positions.

Does anyone have a picture/s or sketches which could assist me ?

Thanks in hope

Glad I could help! :)

About the central library, not that I am aware of, please correct me if I am wrong...
Having said that, it is a very good shout and I will look into trying to organize something. ;)

I recently started a new forum called ‘Technical Information’.  This seems like the kind of stuff that could go in there.   We are slightly concerned about copyright issues so I’m the short term we are asking contributors to send the details to a member of the Committee to check over.

Strangely, I spent last winter rebuilding this carb, for my car, bought the rebuild kit, stripped down, rebuilt, its waiting to be installed this spring. I have detailed photos of the strip and rebuild. I have loaded them on to a OneDrive and set them up to be shared via a link for a browser of your choice. I am placing the link below, I am sure you will let me know if it doesn't work. I also have a digital copy of a chapter from a Weber manual that I used..... however I won't share it here for fear of copyright issues.

Excellent, many thanks. Out of interest A) Did you have to make any compromise throttle settings to compensate for removal of the Stepper Motor.  B ) Does the Auto Choke function acceptably.

Sorry if I have not been clear in my description. I have rebuilt as is, i.e. no modifications to the choke mechanism. From the manual, I performed the 56 steps to disassemble into all the parts, then followed the 81 (yes 81) steps to rebuild using the service kit parts and feeler gauge where needed. As you can see from the final pictures in the rebuild series everything is back together including the stepper motor. It's waiting to be fitted when my feet don't cold in the garage. There are still 28 steps, under "Adjustments and Tuning" that need to be carried out when the engine is running and cold then hot. I have seen this as a "challenge" rather than what I would advise anyone to do. When you consider the complexity of this carb and it's dependence on the ESC2 ignition system I am willing to ditch it all and fit a simpler carb and new ignition system if it doesn't work out.... it's just because it was on the Sierra when I took it apart and I thought I would try and keep it .... you know reuse, recycle etc. 🙂
