Right hand side panel, diff, rack and steering removed.   Just the clutch, brake and brake servo to go, then I am back to bare chassis.

Will try to split the diff ok after to confirm ratio.

New bushings turned in stainless to replace the washer stacks for my diff.   All custom sizes.

 

 

 

 

Pedal box removed and car back to chassis for prep and paint.

 

I'm impressed, it's looking very professional and if you carry on at this rate you'll be on the road by the weekend 🤣

If only.  I'm thinking probably next spring, but hope to put the car away and tent down over winter.

Can, or perhaps should I install a LSD before IVA?  

I am looking at a quaife ATB kit for my open Sierra 7" diff and would prefer to build in from start if possible.

Is it allowed and are there any cons?

The only issue I can think of is if you are looking to get an age related registration number.  You would then need to show proof of the minimum number of parts from the original donor vehicle, or alternatively you would need to provide proof of the minimum number of new parts for a new reg number.

Either way I don't imagine an LSD will make any difference to the IVA test   ............................  however, somebody may know otherwise 🤪

 

Almost a whole month, with little time to play in the garage.

Though I have managed to service and paint my hubs and rear brakes.  Just need to chase up the wishbones in the paint shop.

 

 

Chassis primed and ready for a coat of Frosts Extreme Chassis black tomorrow.    I had a quick play on some of the spacers and windscreen supports, but this is quite goopy, so I have thinned out a little for tomorrow.

 

 

 

Not terribly happy with the results, reading the instructions it looks like I shouldn't use the Frost's Extreme Chassis black with a self etching primer (Frosts 1K self etching grey primer) - at this point I'm going to live with it and add a second coat of chassis black later as needed.

Much happier with the wishbones and suspension components that I dropped in to a local marine coating business for blasting and painting - these look good as new (apart from my greasy paw prints):

Second coat on chassis today - all ready for some bank holiday re-assembly.

The assembly begins - rear brake lines, front brake lines (roughed in as I don't have 3/16 p clips), steering rack, HP fuel pump, swirl pot, fuel lines, rear dif, LP fuel pump, hand brake cables and handle.   Thought I would do all of these bits prior to replacing the side panels as access is easier.

Brake Master Cylinder

I am missing the top right spacer as I need to shave a little off.

I did curse a bit doing the diff as it needs to go in tilted and it's a bit of a job on your own.   Also banged/scraped my head a couple of time on the rear supports - I must tie some foam around them, as I regularly catch them!

 

 

Any recommendations on clutch cylinder and reservoirs for brake and clutch? Looks like the remote resevoir might be useful, but needs the clips and splitter.

Okay, sorted the last spacer out for the diff and all completed.

 

Tomorrow I will look to drill the rivet holes for the front brake lines and see about re-fitting the side panels.

Side panels are back on, but still have an issue with the sides bowing out upto half an inch in the middle.   Steel flat bar is installed under the bottom edges, but perhaps these were not folded correctly?

Attempting to pull these into place while the sealant goes off, but better option may be to run some aluminium strip in under the top?
