Has anyone used ABS to make body panels?

I have an open framed sandrail and would like to like to create a partial body. I saw this picture on another site, and I'm presuming the sheets are ABS?
Would 2mm or 3mm be more suitable?

    How would ABS respond to having stones chucked at it?
    I would think aluminium would be more stone proof?

    I don't think it would be a problem. Headlights and bumpers are plastic. 

    I think bumpers are usually polypropylene, which isn't as strong as ABS
