Robin Hood S7 Ford pinto 1.6 - damaged sump.

Featured Replies

Hi fellow enthusiasts.

I have recently purchased and embarked on a rebuild of an S7.

The engine sump has been damaged around the sump plug - minor leak (very low ride height) and I need to replace it. Does anyone know if it is possible to remove the sump with the engine in-situ?.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Glenn

You can do it on a 2B but it's a real pain trying to get all the gasket bits to stay in place when you refit the sump.

I don't know if it's possible on an S7 but I'd be inclined to take the engine out anyway -  it's so much quicker & easier to refit the sump with the engine upside down.

I can say when this happened to my old S7, taking the engine is the easiest way to do it.

I did it on my 3A with the engine in situ. It was a bit of a fiddle but manageable.

Many thanks Steve, Jez and Dave - very useful info.

I think that i had already resigned myself to taking out the engine - but was hoping to save some time - better spent on suspension, water system etc. Still it will keep me busy through the winter months!

Thanks

Glenn
