Rewiring the car as the existing 1989 Skoda wiring loom was past it's best, brought all the wiring forward from the rear in an engine loom & a lighting loom. Got the indicators working on the bench, with simple switches a on/off as the ignition & a on/off/on as each side, I have them wired as

Pin 49 + Switched Live (will be via ignition)

Pin 49A Load going to on/off/on switch (stalk replacement)

Pin 31 - going to battery earth

Switch ignition on, switch the on/off/on in either direction works as expected.

Now onto the hazards, I want to get them working on a simple on/off switch, I tried to instal a changeover relay in the 49A feed to bypass the on/off/on switch then to a couple of relays so that each indicator circuit was isolated from each other, but couldn't get this to work correctly.

Now I have installed a 2nd flasher relay

Pin 49 + Switched Live (will be direct from battery so hazards work with ignition off)

Pin 49A Load going to 2 relays on for each side of the car

Pin 31 - going to battery earth

This does work as expected, all the lights flash as they should, until you put the on/off (ignition switch) on, with the on/off/on in one of the on positions, at which point although they flash it's not constant flashing you can also hear one of the flasher relays making a noise, I am presuming that it's getting some feedback.

I'm pretty sure I've done it like this in the past, but with the aid of some Diodes rather than relays to isolate the circuits, can anyone suggest a suitable Diode to put in each indicator leg of the Hazard circuit.

Or can somebody come put with a better solution (Highly Probable)

EditL- Sorry just to add I did try to create a wiring diagram to try to make it make sense, but after multiple attempts with what claimed to be basic easy CAD software I gave up.

Relay 1 changes from 12V switched  to permanent 12V power to the flasher relay

Relay 2 shorts Left and Right indicators to both flash.

Relay 3 causes a Hazard light to flash on the dash

I hope that this helps

Very clear and helps me!

IanS, Thank you for this, I'll wire this up tonight on the bench, but can you tell me what will cause Relay 2 to activate when the flasher is working?

Unless it's too early in the morning, or my aged brain is fogging up, I don't see a circuit between the output of 49A to either Left or Right

Output of 49A goes to on-off-on indicator switch.

Just realised i sent wrong early version.

Will correct that :(

I've got it working although somewhat inelegantly, I'm sure there is a better way, but your help got me in the right direction, I followed your wiring for the first relay & the flasher relay. But then I outputted pin 49A into relay 2 to pin 30 so that it went down to the on/off/on switch from pin 87, then taking a feed from the hazard on/off switch I put that to pin 86. Then from pin 87A I added 2 extra standard relays which I used to isolate each side of the car from each other. I'm waiting for a couple of diodes to arrive as I think they can replace the extra 2 relays, i'm sure I've done it this way before.

I've just tried to draw it out but I am useless at things like that I'll have another go later, or tomorrow on the PC rather than on the laptop

So those who are still following along & not lost the will to live, @IanS help was invaluable as it showed the error of my ways getting the power into the circuit in the first place, so this is how it currently stands (I think), it's working as required but a bit cumbersome with 5 relays, I do have some micro relays which I could mount in a box & just bring the wires out. The 2 relays in the top right are only there to isolate the NS indicators & OS indicators under normal driving use. I believe these can be got rid of with a pair of diodes, I'll attach another image on another post as I can't add 2 images to this one it seems due to the size limit.

Here is the alternate diagram, apologies if the diodes are the wrong way but they are there to stop the current flowing from NS to OS when using the normal indicators. Just to add my dash has both a NS & OS telltale, so I'm not too worried about an actual hazard warning light

Now its no use right now but did think of using a micro controller (Arduino like) and 2 relays to replace this circuit, among other circuits

keeping it simple by wire the stalk left and right and hazard switch straight into controller and the controller drives the relays depending on what was operated,

the relays drive each side indictor lamps

so for right or left they flash the relevant relay, for hazard it drives both

Not in the slightest 😂 don't take offence, but an old git like me wouldn't even know where to start with something like that, seems far too complicated for a simple (lol) circuit

none taken, was going to make a board up and sell but never thought there be enough demand so never did🤣

Glad I helped kick start this.

Looks like you got to where I was going when I had a brain fart

TBH I wouldn't mind seeing the diagram & what's involved, might be worth doing it as a post to try to bring some of us old un's into the 20th century, I'm told there are now phones that do more than make calls now.

Quickly thrown together,

The code would be very simple but had originally thought of designing a board that do all the electrics and monitor things like current to tell you when a bulb is out etc

might be next winter project on my car 😃
