April 20Apr 20 Hi anyone have any experience of getting a canopy roof through the IVA? , I am aware of the requirement for E marked windscreen which I have . I know there are issues with getting a Vw nova through these days? ( I am not building a nova but it also has canopy roof). I am looking at recycling an aircraft fighter jet canopy or part of , for part of the roof . I understand this might be acceptable for roof and pax side windows , but not driver side windows . This defines the whole build so needs to be right From the start . it’s going to be tandem seating . i had a search and couldn’t see anything on this , if I missed it apologies and Thanks in advance .
April 20Apr 20 Have you downloaded & read https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/iva-manual-for-vehicle-category-m1 ?
April 20Apr 20 Author Thanks , no pun intended but it’s not very clear 😂. Struggling with this statement “ “Clear panels, not made of glass, fitted to the vehicle that do not impinge on the forward, rearward or sideward view of the driver are considered to be body panels and are not subject to the requirements of this section.” A clear distortion free canopy does not impinge . But I am guessing they mean - “Is in field of view “? reading the whole section it would appear the roof and rear side rear passenger side windows don’t need safety markings ? thanks again .
April 22Apr 22 Better to take it to IVA with no roof or windscreen and fit them afterwards - saves a lot of hassle.
April 22Apr 22 Author Thanks yes I have read of this , also means you don’t need demister and wipers . Surely this isn’t legal ?!
