Looking for a blue Robin Hood 2B with red trim

Featured Replies

Hi all, I joined because I’m looking for a particular Robin Hood 2B blue red trim, the reason being it was my grandads car that he built entirely using parts from a donor ford sierra and other parts from various places and companies, I have the full build diary and some photos, his name was Eric barker who lived in Irlam, cadishead and unfortunately passed away a few years ago now but before he did he sadly had to sell his 3 kit cars, he also had a JBA Falcon which I’m trying to find that was unpainted body at the time and also a Silver Marlin 5Exi with black interior, I only have the photo of the Robin Hood for now but I’m hoping someone can help me track these cars down, as hopefully I’d like to purchase at least the Robin Hood first back since that one I have the most info for, second to that would be the JBA Falcon, later down the road of course but before then would love to chat to the current owners and organise something with them, since this is family memories for me, and will truly mean a lot, since he was also the person who had a model railway collection that I’ve also inherited to keep going and was someone who got me very much interested in these things to begin with. Please let me know, I’m looking for any information or advice. Kind regards Callum, I look forward to hearing back from anyone in regards to it. 👍🏻

photo of the Robin Hood 2B is included below.
It’s the only photo of it looking pretty much complete and isn’t just a photo of the chassis etc. if anyone can help me track it down in any way, whether they know the owner or have an idea of where I can look further, that’d be greatly appreciated, there is a reg plate on the car in the photo but it’s hard to tell what it is.  Many thanks Callum

Hi Callum,

Do you know if he was ever a member of RHOCaR (as this club was originally known)?  If so our membership secretary, Alan Richey, may be able to find some information on the car.

If you have a record of the SVA test or anything relating to it's registration it might help to track down it's registration number.

There may well be some members from the Manchester area who remember your grandad or his car (if he was involved with the club) but you may have to wait a while for a reply as many members don't visit the forum every day.

Good luck with your search,   Steve

Hi Steve, yes I do believe he was a member of the Robin Hood car club, as he drove it with my uncle Andy to places like Dunkirk or Normandy I think it was for D day, I also don’t believe I have any of the documentations for the car relating to the registration as it’s not in his diary when he was building the car but what is in there is that he did get it MOT, and insured etc for the road since he did drive it of course to places, but not as much when I was around them since he was getting older and unable to drive them which is partly why he had to sell them, so I never got to be a passenger in them.

Many thanks as always for responding Steve and hopefully later down the line, I can be involved more with these sorts of things as it’s always been my passion and interest plus except from my uncle Andy I’m really the only other person in the family who’s interested in it all.

How long ago was anything to do with the database was changed, also is this the only place to ask other owners of them questions or is there other places? he should’ve been a member back when he owned the car since according to my mum and family members who grew up with him, have informed me after asking that he will have done trips and events with fellow owners of other Robin Hood cars.

Database switched to the current system about 6 years ago when I was Membership Secretary.

Previous system was on Microsoft Access which was clunky to use. I have a copy of the old membership database so he's probably on there, might give details like the car registration number if you don't already know it.

If you could have a look for me, that’d be extremely helpful, all I need is the car registration number, so I can find where the car is etc. and yeah he will have been a member about 6 or so years ago since that’s when he sold them roughly, he then passed away around a few years ago now. I have also asked family members to look for photos etc too since there will be more of the cars somewhere that I don’t have just yet.

No worries, I appreciate the help so far and if it helps, there’s no rush. 👍🏻

I wonder if anybody has any old club photos of the stand at Stoneleigh if he attended a show it could well have been that one, it might be in the background somewhere

Maybe, I’m not entirely sure what shows he went to with the vehicle but he was definitely a member of the group and did visit some I’m sure of it, and did also do trips such as to Normandy or Dunkirk for d day. I also have 2 boys in hoods books from 2008 that would’ve been his volume 1 and 2 if that helps which I believe by looking inside is a Robin Hood owners club published book etc. 👍🏻

Also, I’ve attached a photo of me when I was younger with my grandad, Eric who’s on the left just incase anyone may recognise him from a photo instead of just a name. 👍🏻

I've looked through the old database and Eric was a member from 2003 until 2008. His car was a 2B wishbone and the registration number was B81 XJA.

I comes up on DVLA as being taxed and MOT'd so at least it's still around and being used.

@Callum R Don't give up hope in getting the car back, I've just bought back my current car from the guy I sold it to 17/18 years ago
