Forum Software - Upgrade to V5

Featured Replies

Tomorrow we will be upgrading the forum software from V4 to V5.    This a major change and you will find the User Interface is different.   All the information is there but probably in a different location.

I am very grateful to Johnathan Wright (j0nniboi) who has been helping me with designing the User Interface so it looks as similar as we could to the existing one.  There are 2 changes that we have been unable to change.   The first is that you now log on using your email address rather than your username.   The password remains unaffected.   The second thing is the +Create button has disappeared.    If you want to create a new topic you first have to select Areas > Forums from the Menu and a bright blue button will appear.   If, like me, you like having 'Unread Content' as your default start screen then there is an icon top right of the screen to being it up and there is an Options drop down button to select it.

The forum will be unavailable while we conduct the upgrade and then it will take us an hour or so to implement the configuration changes we have designed.   I would  be grateful if you could refrain from asking any questions until tomorrow night when we should have completed the upgrade.

Cheers

Al (with my Webmaster Hat on)

Good news, the upgrade went swimmingly thanks to Jonathan and we are open for business. As you can see we have tried to make it as similar to V4 as could. We still have a tweaks to make but fundamentally we are done. If you need to figure out how to do something you used to do in V4 and can't see how to do it V5 then send me a message (alanrichey) and I will try and help. Although I am only about 48 hrs ahead of all of you on the learning curve.

Also, there is a limit in what we can do. We have a lot of control over the 'Look and Feel' aspects but when it comes to stuff 'Under the Hood' such as following through on a button press or Menu selection we have no control over that apart from submitting a bug report.

Enjoy

Al

Well done Alan, these things are never easy, usually the instructions miss a few critical mouse clicks because the person who puts the instructions together know the system inside & out. They expect people just to know things that have never been explained to them & they think are obvious as they always do that.
