Accelerator Cable plus another query

Featured Replies

Robin Hoods 2B Plus - Ford Sierra based 2 litre Pinto:

My accelerator cable snapped this morning on an early morning run, so does anyone know what accelerator cable is likely to be fitted to my 2B (Sierra?) or is it a case of taking it off and measuring it and finding a supplier? Either way any recommendations for a supplier - quite urgent only because I don't want to miss this beautiful weather . . . . . what a pleasant way of seeing the countryside limping back on idle in first or second😁

Also an interesting aside, when I was parked, engine running, hazards on, the engine wouldn't switch off until I stopped the hazards first. Any ideas why. The hazards worked fine with the engine off or on.

Unfortunately there are that many possible combinations for the accelerator cable that you'll have to take the old one off and try to figure out a suitable replacement. If you put a picture of the 2 ends and the length on here someone will probably be able to identify it for you.

No idea what's going on with the hazards !

Thanks. My job for tomorrow then. Does the same thing apply to clutch cables?

If you have the Sierra pedal box and a type 9 gearbox the standard Sierra clutch cable fits, however, it is better to fit a longer one such as the Quinton Hazel part number;  QCC 1585, which can then be run round away from the exhaust & manifold.

I bought one for mine last year from "Parts in Motion" for about £15.

Wise words. Its off now not at all what I expected, replacement ordered

Off the car, measured and a new one found of the right length and looks like the right carb fitting and ordered - should be right. Thanks all for the advice. Hopefully back on the road for the weekend. Must improve the angle by which it left the pedal and entered a guide tube as that is why it frayed and broke - behind a cowling covering the pedal hinges and brake cylinder, so not normally visible.

I'd really like to get a spare clutch cable, but I expect it would be the same advice, i.e. get it off and measure it?

I have used the clutch cable off a 2WD Cosworth sierra as it is a bit longer than the standard sierra cable and thus is easier to pass round the exhaust.

When I get the kit out tomorrow I will look at the part number provided my age brain remembers.

I'm pretty sure the QCC1585 is the cossy cable but it would be good if you could confirm.

Thanks, I work on the theory that if I have a spare, I'll never need it! I will have a look first, I need to get the car up when the weather is cooler, as I want to check the fuel hoses and possibly replace them.

Don't they add a zero (or 2) to everything with Cosworth in front of it?
