Men’s 1.6 ecu immobiliser on superspec

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I’ve still got a non running super spec after several months of tinkering. I am left with one final issue which is stopping it firing up. No Injection of fuel - the ecu isn’t telling the injectors to open. There is fuel pressure at the rail and power to the injectors but no injection.

I watched a YouTube vid of a guy removing the immobiliser from a men’s 1.6 ecu by recoding a chip then cutting pin 13 inside the ecu box. I’ve checked my ecu and pin 13 has not been cut.

The car has not run for me or the previous owner so I’m wondering if the ecu has been replaced at some point to fix a problem but without the immobiliser removed.

Does anyone know if Robin Hood Engineering cut pin 13 in their superspec cars as part of the immobiliser fix??

Thanks,

Jon

The modification wasn't actually done by RHE, they sent them all to another firm to have them modified. Not surprisingly that firm is long gone. A few years ago I did check with another firm who specialise in it and they quoted £120. A big hit if that isn't your problem.

It’s not simply a case of only cutting pin 13. The EEPROM in the MEMS 1.6 ECU had to be reprogrammed first so it didn’t look for the security code signal coming from the 5AS immobiliser module fitted to Rover cars. This code was a fixed random number learned when MEMS and 5AS were first powered up together. Without the code MEMS would run the engine for a few seconds then kill it by turning off the fuel and spark. So if a different MEMS ECU was fitted it wouldn’t have the fix and would still be looking for the security signal. That maybe your situation.

The pin was only cut internally afterwards to prevent inadvertent signals and accidental re-arming.

I found this link to a chap who apparently can provide a module fitting service which overrides the immobiliser signal. Might be worth a contact?

Thanks chaps, email sent! I will await the solution. 🙃

I've used Paul in the past, although quite a number of years ago, he initially had a external box with 3 wires, 2 which gave the rolling code to the ECU & an earth which if you interrupted it would stop the starter from turning. But I think his later development fitted whatever was needed inside the ECU you send him your ECU & a week later you get it back. Like I said this this was 10-15 years ago but I see no reason why the service would have changed.

Today I received the ECU back from Paul. He tested the ECU and found it to be working as standard and applied his immobilizer fix. Brilliant service!

I'm pretty confident the car will start now but haven't had chance to test it yet.... Will let you know how we get on.

Thanks as always for the help and advice.

Great news. Let us know if the engine runs now and we can add the fix to our MEMS knowledge.
