Hi all, my local kit car owning mot tester has finally retired. Is anyone aware of any kit car understanding mot testers in the Cannock area.

I had a similar thing happened to me this year. The guy I've been going to for years retired and the people who took over his garage didn't know their bum from their elbow on kits. I spent a morning visiting some local garages who had been around for years. I had a quick chat with them, asking if they tested kits and I could tell straight away if they knew what they were on about. One of them was a small father and son place, less than a mile from me, who were "old school" and I could tell straight away that they knew their stuff. I've used them for both the kit and my "normal" car and they are a proper, genuine garage.

I can only recommend that you visit any well established garages around your area for a quick chat. The newer places don't seem to know what to do with anything that doesn't have a computer in it. I think you'll soon figure out which ones know what they're on about. If you say "it's a 7 style kit car" and they say what's one of them? I'd keep looking.

Have you tried checking with some of the independent MOT garages around Cannock? It’s probably worth giving them a call first and explaining that it’s a kit car, as not every tester will be familiar with them. Hopefully someone local on here can recommend a good one.

Do you do Faecesbook, try getting hold of a guy called Dave Fleet, he lives somewhere close to Cannock, there are at least 5-6 guys in the area, they will know a friendly darage.
