Robin hood series 3

Featured Replies

Hi, hope some of guys you out there can offer advice.

I have a Robin hood series 3 with the zimmerides units and wish to change.

The front units look to be 13" long, the rear 20" fitted into the rear roll bar (I'm told not many of these models were made, I think 'longboarder' has one).

The rear suspension is quite soft, the front is very hard - not an ideal mix.

Tried to upload photos but says size to large?

Any help, advice appreciated.

Hi. I can give you advice on the front. The original supplied Zimmermann onboard coil overs are known to have springs that are far too stiff. Your first step would be to replace with softer ones. I went for 130lb from memory. Other people may go for less. If you can stretch to replacing the Zimmerman shocks that would help. The stiff front end is also caused by the original Sierra anti roll bar. Replacing with tie rods is recommended. Lots of threads on here about doing that. I don't think I can help with the back. Sounds like I have the same setup but I'm happy with the stiffness. It's very firm but I saves it bottoming out.

Hi, thanks for your message.

Mine is the outboard coil overs, tbh the suspension is firm but I'm more worried about the Zimmermans snapping as they were never designed to be a complete suspension unit, just a damper.

Have a word with DamperTech - they should be able to help with Gaz replacements, fitted with spring rate of your choice. http://dampertech.co.uk/ 01709 703992

I'm not sure if Dave is still there but they had a load of information on RH cars and should be able to recommend something suitable.

As we have limited storage we have to limit the size of pictures. It is very easy to resize them to upload them. There are lots of programs to do that, personally I use paint.net, a free graphics program. If I take a picture with my iPhone I find shrinking them to 15% of the original size works well.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Not the best on tech things.

Are you sure it’s a 3? They had inboard suspension units.

Yes definitely series 3, new design to pass the sva test.

Not many were produced, purchased the kit from RH in 1998
