Which Temperature Sensor?

I have a 2b plus and a 2ltr pinto engine. I have all the electrics working fine except for the temperature sensor!

 

The engine i bought didn't have a sensor in it so i bought a new one (green tag on it) from my local ford garage. When the engine gets hot the electric fan comes on but no life from the temp gauge on the dash! (I am using the sierra clocks)

Okay, try earthing the wiring going to the sender - gauge should read off the scale if okay.

Do as Andy says, and if the gauge/wiring is ok then it’s a bit of a guessing game as to which sender goes with the gauge. (There are lots, black, green and white being the most common ones I believe). Remember it’s the gauge you are matching to not the engine.

The Capri guages need the white top sender unit.

I'm using a BLACK sender aswell. Took ages to find the right one as there are several colours used in the Pinto range..

The wiring is working fine - tested it by earthing the connection and the gauge went to the top! I will try a few scrappies and get a couple of different sensors.

What dials are you using?

My local car accessories shop has a list. If you say 1989 Sierra he can tell you which sender colour is required?

Try yours.

Also some of the later after market senders are all one colour
