Well, I have removed most of the trim off the sierra and everything else not necesary to keep it running (needs to be running this weekend!). What can I safely sell off of the car without looking back later and thinking "if only i'd kept that". I presume I can safely sell things like the bumpers, interior trim, seat belts, lights etc.? Basically I am seeing if I can recoup the cost of the car (£110 minus 3 months tax!). I am going to keep things like door seals, etc. as they appear (from other threads) to come in useful!

All the removable panels (doors, bonnet, tailgate/boot) any windows, interior trim, seats (if you ain't using them) bumpers. If it has a decent exhaust on it sell it. Towbar. Headlights/Light clusters (you might want to keep some of the bulbs though). Sunroof can be taken out and sold. Wiper mechanism if you ain't going to go the RHSC way with it.

 

I worked on if it was mechanical moving part or electrical I would keep it.

Sell all trim, bumpers, seats, doors boot ,bonnet,glass,lights.

Keep all nuts bolts washers, keep the washers of top off front struts there needed for rear axle.

Keep the wiring loom even if you dont intend using it.

Unfortunatly selling the trim and lights up here in sunny Lancashire was hard, as nobody wanted them. I tried Loot, e-bay and even offered them to local scrappy and i could.nt give them, away.

If you have the room keep every thing except the trim and shell.

What really concerned me was that a similar Sierra was abandoned 200 yards up the road from me and the only things that disappeared in the month before the council removed it were the wheel trims.

It was a 1.8 CVH and there was nothing I wanted

I think its often easier just to bin the bits like headlights, tailights radiator etc because much as I hate throwing out good bits it seems to be very rare that anyone needs a headlight or something similar for an old banger like a Sierra. Most people needing such items would look first at a scrappys.

Best to just get rid, you still have the good bits.

If I got £50 for the good bits I didn't want - It would only amount to 1 % of the total cost of kit construction.

Yes it is a shame , seems such a waste, but you just have to look round a scrappys and see what they crush up rather than "Hang onto hoping to sell". We kept hold of our radiator because it looked brand new but in the end binned it. If you are selling your alloys are you getting some from RH? We have decided to keep our old ones and use for messing about and keep the new ones for good.

It's definitely worth keeping an old set of tyres because then you don't have to worry about getting the tracking spot on until you've got a few miles on it. Wearing down the old tyres doesn't matter!

 

But, beware - RHE alloys are different profiles and there's many a builder out there who built with donor wheel on, and then switched to their pride and joys only to find a cycle wing in the way or an arch that's not big enough etc etc.

Do you mean the width of the tyre could cause the problem, Surely if lower profile tyres are fitted th the RH Arrays the rolling circumfrence would be the same.

All I'm saying is be careful. Change the profile and you usually change the diameter ever so slightly too. Change the rims and you potentially change the offset and the width.

 

Best is to check as you go along. By all means drive it with donor wheels on for a bit - I think this is a good plan rather than rubbing down your new tyres, but just make sure that your pride and joy wheels will fit and look right as you go along.

Yep, this is what I am planning to do. Three of the sierra alloys have new tyres on (she paid £160 for them just over a month ago!). I will keep the RH ones for 'best', the sierra ones don't look too bad and I feel that it is better to scrub them first!

Just to add to above post.

The sierra wheels have a different offset to the RHE Arays, DONT fit wings to suit the Sierra wheels there is a big diferance (at least 15mm)

I've got one from a 2.00 EFi GLS hatch but I would like another one to use as my front windscreen wipers, I've found a way to time them together that gives normal wipe and an intermittent wipe but I need two.

That sounds interesting. Presumably you have space for two.

 

Isn't a mini system simpler?
