  1. Hi I removed my tank by pulling both seat as far forward as possible and removing the panel behind. The tank came through quite easily. Its the sierra injection model as a new one was easily sourced on ebay. My kits a 2B.

  2. Quite likely the issue then. Modern engines have so called ‘smart alternators’ where the charging can be controlled by the engine’s ECU via a single feed wire to the alternator (all part of a CO2 reduction effort so the alternator does most of its work when the car is decelerating). I don’t know much about the Ford engines but on an MX5 engine the alternator was ‘smart’ from about year 2000.

  3. You need to make sure which alternator diagram is correct. The 6mm should be ring terminal to battery, it may need to bigger wire depending on alternator output. IG should connect to a switched live. L wire to warning lamp and other side of lamp to IG. S depends on alternator but would be 2mm to battery. If you have a small Denso type alternator (40amp) it may not give enough juice if you're fuel injected.

  4. If you have repaced the ignition warning bulb with an LED bulb, then that might also prevent the alternator charging, can be seen because the LED appears to be constantly turned on when the engine is revving.
