  2. Mines been locked up in the shed for a while. Body works knackered and the undercarriage has gone south. I`m feeling too old to ride it lately, but had some decent mileage out of her. Love to sell her, but apparently illegal to sell your wife in this country.

  3. Another cracking day, proving again why you shouldn't SORN your car over winter. Lovely day for the drive with slight caveat that our cars will all need a good clean later. A good turnout and thanks to all those that made the effort. They make a lovely sight.

  4. I have. Here they are. I've not seen any others with 4 seats. Will definitely be coming to some shows in 2024.

  5. Lovely day out. Weather just about perfect so we all had nice drives (1.3 miles in my case). The fair was very busy and I reckon there were over 70 cars that came, they even had to open an overflow field. So put it into your diary for next year. Big thanks to Steve, Jim, Nigel & Helen for supporting it.

  6. In a word, no. If you present it early for the first MOT and it passes, the second MOT will be due 12 months from that date. It's only at the second MOT that you can present it early and still maintain the actual due date

  8. The old timers amongst us will remember we used to sell humorous stickers for the back of the car. Well, the good news are that they are back. These two are available: Our plan is to sell them at Malvern and Newark, for £1 each. However, for those who can't attend the shows or want some now, we are selling them for £1.50, to allow for postage charges. Just go the 'Store' option on the blue banner and select what you want. While cleaning up the store I have also added our normal windscreen sticker as well. You will receive one of these on initial registration and also you can request another at renewal. For those who want one 'out of phase' these will also be on sale at the Shows at £1 or £1.50 from the Store. (We have red, yellow, blue and green nose cones to match your car) Have fun

  10. Hi everyone We have always encouraged members and guests to ask questions on the forum, and invariably several members will offer suggestions. However I have recently seen aome questions that I happen to know have already been answered. It really is good practice in any support forum to do some research before you post a question. Under "Useful Sites" on the blue banner you will find specific pages for 2B, Series III/IIIa and Superspec models that cover known problems (The Exmo page is under construction and I am still waiting for volunteers to buile pages fopr the Lightweight, GBS Zero or any other models). Also the Search tool is very powerful tool, but you have to use it properly. For example, when I was worried about my clutch rattle I did a search for Superspec clutch. I get 6000 hits, which is no help at all. The reason, of course, is that it is looking for any post containing the word Superspec or the word Clutch . But when I seached for "Superspec Clutch" (enclosed in quotes) I got only 23 hits which were easier to read in full. As it happened, they solving my problem. Hope that helps Al Richey (Webmaster)

  11. Hi Sam, Welcome to the club, I'm assuming that you've got a Ford type 9 gearbox - if not ignore this !!! There is a "quick shift" mod. that you can do on the gear lever which reduces it's travel and you can also shorten it by however much you want. Have a look at this http://www.s262612653.websitehome.co.uk/DVAndrews/quick.htm I've done this on a couple now and it works a treat. I usually use plastic board to make the spacer (cheap kitchen chopping boards work well) and moving the pivot point by about 10mm suits me. The more you move it the shorter the travel but the heavier the action becomes. Hope this helps Steve

  12. Hi newbie owner here. Some of you may remember Tango, the 4 seater vindicator sprint. After 10 years of it rotting away in the garage; we have spent the last 4 months restoring it back to working order. Tango is now fully Motd, taxed and insured, ready for 2024! It may not be the season to drive it on the road but we couldn't wait any longer.

  13. Definitely, can't wait to get it back out properly. Took it out Christmas day was a bit chilly but was worth it just to see my grandads face going down the carriage way. Repaired/replaced everything that needed attention. After driving it over 200 miles over the past month everything seems promising after it sitting for 10 years, just a small oil leak that I need to address.

  14. How to stay alive after soaking your wife. I have been on a quest to have a useful roof and doors for my 2B for a few years, I think I’m at a point where I’m satisfied its as good as it gets. Not watertight but it seems to keep the worst of the weather out. I fitted the RH weather protection initially but with the doors on I found it far too claustrophobic and not really rain proof. I guess I was short of patience to persevere with it and therefore the result was not what I wanted. I went to a show and one of the RHOCaR members had a “Surry” roof on his car, asking where he got it from, he replied, I make them. Beer tokens were exchanged, and I was a proud owner of one. There were a few ideas that helped me on my way (journey) to where I am now with this roof, but it was still lacking in a few areas. The roof used the same fastenings as the RH wet weather gear and the water came in between the roof and screen. I was still using the RH doors and they did not meet the roof at the top and there was no where to store them in the car. With doors off the water kicked up by the front wheels when I was turning right ended up in my lap, most embarrassing upon exit! Worse still during left turns the water ended up in my wife’s lap, don’t ask! So first on the list was a solution to the wheel/water problem. I had seen a couple of cars with ½ screens on the bottom half of the “door” opening. I made a paper template that I thought would work and was off to see Chris at Topps Tarpaulins who made them a reality. They solved a couple of problems; there is hardly any water coming in from the wheels and they keep a lot of the draft off on long journeys on A roads and motorways. Having solved the wet pants problem my attention went to the roof. Using the bought one as a template I was again at Chris’s discussing how it could be made better. I had seen cars with caravan awning rails fitted to the windscreen and we decided this was a good solution. Arial coax cable and the thickness of the material proved a great fit but still slides in easily. Next subject under discussion was how to stop the roof wearing out the hair out on the top of my head, it’s sending me bald. I found some stainless bar and tube which fitted the new purpose. The bar was bent to suit, and an angle bracket welded together to provide some over the head support. As everything must go in the boot, I cut the hoops in half and used tube to join the halves together. The old roof had a hoop over the roll bar held on with bathroom bolts with the bolt taken out. OK time for a copy. B&Q have just the thing, 2 purchased, modified and pop riveted onto the roll bar. The next thing to consider was how to fasten the roof at the back. Fastened to the roll bar supports these seemed to be the best solution and have worked very well. This photo also shows the “all in the boot” rule being followed. Ok I now had a fully functioning roof the doors were next on the list. Previously I had taken the old doors apart and cut metal frames in half so they would go behind the seats (new rule all in the car!) I dismantled the doors completely and using CAD (cardboard assisted design) set about redesigning the frames. I kept the front metal forms as they would be correct for the new design. The rear top one needed modifying because the top of door would be longer the bottom one would remain the same or similar. Some bar steel was purchased and the whole lot was welded together. Chris again covered them and welded in the window. The material acts as the hinge between the top and bottom halves. I will come back to the doors in a bit. Everything is going swimmingly well until we went out with the doors on and found the bottom half would flap up at any speed over 30mph. Not good, see wife getting wet! I came up with this temporary solution that has been in place for ?? years. At the same time, I put on a tab that would hold the door closed. This was OK but the roof and the doors tended to separate once under way which was annoying me. A rethink was needed. Over to see Chris again and discuss solutions. We decided to put zips along the top of the doors and inside the roof. I had to go away and think about this as how would I be able to do the zips up once I was inside or conversely on the outside. Chris said you can have double zips that do up from both sides, problem solved. I had my roof, doors, and half doors to suit every occasion. This was great for a few years but eventually time catches up with you or more exactly your body. I have had two replacement knees which seem to have reduced my height by one inch, long story, I’m still 6’3” so folding up to post myself through the gap between the roof and the bottom of the door became an ordeal; unless the weather forecast said absolutely no rain forecast the car stayed in. Whilst out with the East of England bunch someone (apologies I cannot remember his name) had a Zero with the roof on and it had an access zip which gave much more room to get in and out. Its copy time again. Over to see Chris yet again, can you do something like this? “No problem” he said. The result is that we can get in and out much more easily. It has taken a lot of time, much mental acrobatics, skinned knuckles, and a bit of cash, but I am happy with the result and can enjoy the car for a few more years. Oh and the best result my wife is reasonably happy but she does still monitor the weather forecast. If you want any more detail of the process, please contact me (Derek) through the RHOCaR website. Happy motoring.

  18. You may have noticed I have implemented a new option on the blue banner called 'Useful Sites'. At the moment it has PDF copies of the recent magazines, the old NW Group pages that still had some very relevant information, a link to some build blogs and, not surprisingly, a page for Superspec owners that I have edited. It would be nice if we had similar pages for the other models so people don't have to search the whole database for useful information on their car. So if anyone would care to look after pages for the 3,3A,Exmo,2B... please let me know. And if anyone knows any other good build blogs to add please let me know as well.

  19. I can now report the good news that I received 3 volunteers. RallyChris has voluntered to sponsor the 2B/2B+ page, niduncan, assisted by LeicsS3A will look after the SeriesIII/IIIA page and Sparepart is looking after the Exmo page. As the Superspec page was already up I think that really leaves only the Lighweight, unless any one else has a different model ?? Chris and Nigel have produced the first drafts so I have now exposed them to the full membership, Christopher is still working on the Exmo page. I don't want this be a one man task, so I would ask anyone that feels they can contribute a relevant article for any of the models to please pass it to the appropriate sposnor. Enjoy Al

  21. After a lot of messing around, checking timing, changing cylinder head, changing plugs, leads, rotor arm, dizi cap...I've finally found the source of my engine running problem. Frustratingly, after all that, it was just a blocked fuel filter on the carb. I've got a weber 32/36 and beneath the carb there is a 19mm brass nut, underneath the nut there is a small filter, which was full of black detritus. Never realised there was a filter there...now I do, cleaned and she now starts and idles just fine, hallelujah! Just in time for summer, oh bugger. At last, the upgrade to 2.0 and stage 3 head is complete, only took me a year.

  23. Hi, I would like to gauge opinion as to what you want to do as a NW England member of the UK Kit Car Club. Please could I ask you to spend a few moments and answer the questions on the link below. By doing this it will give me an indication as to what to expect and who is interested in doing what. Many thanks Darrell NW Area Secretary https://forms.office.com/e/eLuSisEWPE

  24. Senders work by changing their resistance as whatever they are measuring changes, so put a multimeter between earth and the sender signal wire, note the resistance at one setting (low petrol or low temperature), then increase the levels (fill the tank and run the car for a while) and measure again. If the resistance has changed, then it is doing something - although no guarantee it is changing correctly - but it's a start. In my experience, senders rarely stop working - it's always a wiring issue and most often, a bad earth. My temp gauge stopped working for months, spent ages trying to fix it and finally noted some dirt under the screw head that held the earth wire on. I couldn't believe that was the problem (there is the rest of the screw bodv in the thread making metallic contact, no?) but no - cleared the tiny bit of dirt away and voila, gauge working again.

  25. Another nice day out. The joinup worked perfectly, plenty of room in the picnic area and the weather behaved itself overall, although 2 of us had a light sprinkle of rain when close to home. The Typhoon aircraft flying out of RAF Coningsby were enjoying themselves, making conversation a bit difficult on occasions, but it was nice to hear. I did a nostalgia run to my old house, which is still there and apparently untouched over the previous 50 years. Picture copyright of Mo

  28. I have done this using these from kit card direct. They need a bit of modification but work well and allow wings to steer with the wheels. http://www.kitcardirect.co.uk/cycle-wing-bracket-front-wing-stays-for-billet-aluminium-upright-black-single.html The front suspension buttresses also need trimming a bit to allow the wing to sit across the width of the wheel.

  30. Thanks to everyone for the welcome and offers of support - I suspect I'm going to need quite a bit over the next few weeks !! A bit of background for anyone who doesn't know me :- I had a 2B for about 14 years which I spent far too much time and money on (don't we all), but I had some great fun in it. I swapped it for a Pilgrim Sumo last year which I am now spending more time and money on ......................... some of us don't learn. Hopefully I'll get it to a few shows this year if I can persuade it to run something like right. I've been a member of the club since I bought the 2B and figured it was time a gave a bit back. I'll do my best to fulfill the roles but be gentle with me - I'll probably get it wrong before I get it right. Steve

  31. Hi All, IanS, GamboGold and I met up at Warrington along with CAskew (who waved us off on this day but drove down on Sunday with family to enjoy day 2) we then drove down in convoy to Malvern along the A49, what a great road, fantastic views, included a fast truck!! (if you were there you know!!) and led us to the kit car show. We saw new models being shown e.g. the 4 wheel drive dieci, electric speedster, MK's new turbo (to name a few), perused the tools/ spare parts, new instruments, etc and viewed the hundreds of kit cars parked up at the many club stands. The weather was beautiful and everyone was friendly and all to willing to chat about their cars and their build/ modify and repair experiences. If you didn't go you missed out. There was an array of food places, brew shops and of course a bar! I drove back after the club AGM leaving IanS and GambolGold to pitch their tents and prepare for the evening entertainment. A drive back up the A49 saw a clear road with a smattering of vehicles and a smile on my face as I had a fun drive home back to Blackpool. All in all a great day. Next long trip on the horizon is Newark, I hope they have booked the weather. Darrell

  34. It has been done many times. How depends if you want the wings to turn with the wheels or just be fixed straight ahead. I do not recall any one doing what I would call a good job of stearing ones. Others may differ. Some cropping of the suspension tops and judicious cuts to the fiberglass have given a reasonable result to fixed straight ahead wings. This should pass MOT as most production cars have parts of thier wheels out in the open at full lock. Sorry no pictures.

  35. The pickup pipe in the tank has filter on the end. Could be a layer of crap in the bottom of the tank made up of reatively heavy bits, when the pump sucks the petrol up the bits are gradually picked up on the outside of the filter mesh until no more petrol flows. Then, left idle, the bits drop off under their own weight. You could run the engine until it stops and then as quick as you can pull out the gauge/pickup pipe to examine the filter.

  36. Are the valve clearances correct? As valves heat up the get longer and if clearance is tight they do not close fully. All sort of strange things occour.
    1 point
  37. Obviously not electrical as it starts and runs for a while. Almost sounds like it's filling the carbs with petrol on startup but no more, so the engine runs on the fuel in the carb and then runs out? What's a manual fuel pump? You don't actually have to manually pump it as you're driving along?
    1 point
  38. is your carb a weber 32/36 if so it has a small gauze filter where the fuel binlet joins the carb-unbolt the pipeand the filter is pushed into the carb body, wash it out and rebuild. another thing you didn't use silicon whehn you fitted the sender unit in the tank as that could be blocking the pick up in the tank.

Meet up at the club stand, chat kit cars, have a wander around, 4pm club AGM and then set off home. Weather forecast is for a dry and sunny weekend Who's up for it? CAskew is hoping to meet us at the Cat & Lion and wave us off, he is making it a family trip on the Sunday So far there is Darrell, GambolGold, IanS,.......

  42. It's getting closer to the National Kit Car Show at Malvern. This should be one of the highlights of the season and also we hold the AGM there so it is important people attend. I hope many of you are coming, but I have to apologise in advance for the reduced support we are providing. Despite numerous requests over the last year for a volunteer to fill the vacant Events Secretary position no-one has come forward. I have managed to arrange for the Club to have a stand, and for a room to hold the AGM, but as I am already holding 3 of the official posts for the Club I really don't have the time to take on the work of the Events Secretary as well. Please have a read of the Terms of Reference for the post (https://www.rhocar.org/index.php?/forums/topic/50463-terms-of-reference-for-club-officials/#comment-410611 and if you do decide to help out the Club by volunteering then please fill out a proposal form as shown in the AGM topic (https://www.rhocar.org/index.php?/forums/topic/50681-agm-2023/#comment-411746 Hope to see you there.
