  1. i used angle iron from one side to another to pick up the handbreak. i used angle iron for the handbreak cable mounting points as described on the video. what this does id give you an opportunity to run angle iron fro the front handbreak pick up to the rear angle iron handbreak cable pick up and then use this as a mounting point for the seat bolts and or seat bealt mounts. if you want some phots i can email if you send me a post.
  2. may try to get along but will be longest trip since sva. no top on yet so will need to be fine. phil
  3. as the guys say what you have to do is notify DVLA that you have changed engine on your donor even if its SORN. You will have to give them the new engine number and issue a new log book (there may be a charge for this). Do this well in advance of SVA / build up inspection as the examiner will want to check identity age of engine for emmission purposes etc. You should then be ok for age related plate. Phil

    Sva - Result

well done passed mine last week great fun isnt it. phil
  12. i put the RH ones on first time through SVA inspector failed them. Changes them to the GSXR and these were ok. phil
  13. having been out for a few drives since passing sva last week i need to shorten the sump as its grounding even on 'smooth' roads. God knows if i encounter a speed bump. I have very basic welding skills and an arc welder is the job easy to do? i am fortunate to have a spare sump to practice on. should i try to find someone to do for me. regrads phil
  14. well that did not work will try again no dont seem to want to. Phil
  15. Popped into DVLA came out a few mins later with reg number and tax disk. Now to see if time to fit screen. ps will attempt to add an picture of the hood. phil
  16. Well what can i say but it feels great to have finally got over the finishing line. The final help on setting the speedo did the trick at 33 reads 35 at 38 reads 40 at 48 reads 50 at 58 reads 60 at 68 reads 70 donts know if thats good but if Mr SVA is happy i am happy. A big thanks to all at RHOCAR the help and answers to what may have appeared to be stupid questions was invaluable. To any non member i would advise you to join you get a lot for your money. Look forward to getting to next show. It will be a strange experiance to have a car there being looked at rather than the one doing the looking. This weekend will be assembling the screen so will be looking up previous posts on how this should be done. Will after 18 months finally get that piece of glass off my windowsil. A special thank you to Nicko fellow Sheffield RHOCAR member who in return for cups of coffee came through with help and advice on many occasions. If i knew how to post a picture of my pride and joy i would but dont know how. Off now to DVLA in the hope i can get a tax disk and reg number - it is as easy as that isnt it. Phil

    Sva Test

Back at the sva centre tomorrow. Have let the tyres down does anyone have any info re tyre pressures if Mr SVA man asks? Spoke to the examiner and he confirmed that putting on the sierra wheels would make matters worse so will be putting back on the RH ones tonight. If it fails this time it will only be the speedo reading. At this stage dont want to start taking out the instruments and taking off the needle bound to break it. If anyone has any last min suggestions please let me know. Phil

    Sva Test

many thanks for that response i suspected that the larger diameter wheel / tyre on the standard (195- 65- 14) would show a lower speed as you say not what i want. The RH tyres 205/50R15 which were on the car at the test should therfore have passed. But supposidly not so. Any suggestions for a cable system. Only thing i can think of is that the dial was bouncing a bit (poss due to either needing greasing or too sharp bends on it or the ttyre pressures were too high forgot to reduce to 17psi were set at 30. any suggestions would be helpful as dont want to go for retest next week and fail only on the speed as all oter items now dealt with. Regards phil

    Sva Test

Question having changed over wheels i notice that the Sierra have a larger diamiter than the ones supplied by RH. Does this mean that the spedo will be reading higher or lower just cant get my head round this one. PS at SVA the speedo was reading lower than actual speed of car. Phil

    Sva Test

Hi just arrived back from Derby test station whilst no MAC 1 just a small amount to do. (Prob 45 mins of work if that) Inspector even said can fit me in friday afternoon if i was free!! the list was:- Contactable none radius edge front hub clamping bolt Steering column support bracket dont have nylocks Steering col sliding joint locktabs not bent over Speedo a bit jumpy Speedo reads below actual (1mph at 35 and 3MPH at 70) Re the latter the inspector put down to using the robin hood supplied tyres said fit the old sierra ones and they should be fine. He made me take out the wire pan scraper from the exhaust as he could not get his probe all the way in but even without this passed the noise test. So a few mins extra work and may soon be on the road!!! Ps took in without a screen but it was freezing at least sunny day. Phil
  21. due for my retest next tuesday. Have had a cover on order from Mountney for last three weeks told yesterday that none in stock and no more available for circa three months. Does anyone have a cover i can borrow for a short while. When car went through first time inpector satated he would fail the wheel without a cover and would not accept silicone in the cross heads as this was not permanant. Phil
  22. as i had built up tunnel and ran all the fuel pipes etc before thinking of inner seat belt mounts i arrived at same problem. I think one of the best solutions is to build in before this point as suggested elsewhere. However my problem was fitting a mount and leaving sufficient space for the seat and sufficient space for MR SVA to see i could get spanner to it to tighten up. Eventually waht i did was to obtain a very strong angle bracket and weld on a nut for the seat belt bolt. The angle bracket was then bolted through the floor into angle iron. The solution worked fine and seems very strong. Will try to add photo. phil

    2.0 Efi Help

when i bought my kit i also purchased an engine from RH as i could not find a donor for love nor money. Same problem no loom. spent hours sorting out turned out to be a dud engine. Eventually RH agreed to provide another which was better but this time only a partial loom. At end of day kept on looking for a donor and found one for less that £200 (cheaper than the dud from RH). Whilst this proved more expesnive in long run glad i did as not only got a working engine with loom ended up with a lot of other spare parts and will get an age related plate as vehicle on SORN (already had build up inspection and everything ok - sva still to get through) as can prove where engine and other parts came from. In addition now have a spare 2l efi sitting in garage which might work on next winter / sell on. If you dont have a donor would suggest still worth keeeping an eye open for one on ebay they do come up from time to time. The car can be stripped over a weekend and shell off the drive the following week if the other half does not want the scrap hanging around. Phil
  24. On recent SVA inspector did not accept the hole through which the exhaust passes through the side panel not having a radius edge. Ditto the edge of the exhaust heat protector which i had put on snap on edge trim (not fire resistant). Can anyone suggest an easy fix to this. Phil
