    Bump Stops

As i understand you don't need bumpstops for an SVA, from the feed back on the site the suspension does not run out of travel. So only add bumpstops if you compress the suspension untill it goes crash.
  2. I've got a tread going in "Engines" about sump shortning didn't consider the oil filter is this the next lowest thing. if it is i need to plan it in to my build... more cost ...cost ...cost
  3. Sure the pick up has to be modded, however i would not like to be responsible, directly or indirectly for anyones engine being starved of oil. If i get my pickup modded and it works without trouble i may be able to get my mates to set up for that bit as well. lets see what response i get. early days.
  4. I am off to some friend this week with the plans from NW Hoodies shorten sump project to see how much they would do one for. I think that in previouse threads that a price of £40 to £50 was mentioned for this mod, does this sound about right? How many people would be interested? Please e-mail me and i will add up the positives. How much would a sump from the scrappies be? around where i live the scrappies can be a bit expensive so whats a reasonable price and could we buy in bulk? My proposal to my engineering mates would be for the modified sump un painted only, you supply the sump and modify the pick up. One last thing how thick should the steel plate for the bottom be? Iawait the flood of interest.
  5. Of to the scrappies this week thanks guys............. see thread in engine i am going to have a chat with some guys i now with there own engineering firm (shed) to see how much shortend sumps would be.
  6. Thank you gentlemen i will be of to the scrappies next week unless i pass a tiger parked up on my way past.
  7. At Deitling i asked Richard on the Robin Hood stand about getting a copy of the original receipt, his eyes glazed over when i wasnt interested in a new kit, i mentioned paying for the admin effort and you could hear the cogs going round. He finished up with a charge of £200 to find ( or reproduce) the reciept. I smiled and walked away. However as i know the original purchaser of the kit, his name and address i will prepare the letter of inquirey and ask him (the original owner) to submit it under the new FOI freedom of Information Act.

    Brake Servo

Came back from Deitling enthused and promptly broke this, can i replace just the plastic bit (without having to split the case) or has anybody got the servo bit at the back of the garage? Photograph borrowed from Nigel.
  9. Have a look at this site, i loaded it on to my PDA with Tom Tom sat nav http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/uksafetycameras.php there are also links to redlight cameras, this with a good detector and you are about as safe as you can get. The gatso cameras, i have been told use infra red film which has penitration properties based on the heat end of the spectrum so it can see through to the numbers. Black absorbs infra red so does not reflect the heat spectrum the rest of the plate is designed to reflect a broad spectrum. The one dodge that will work and i have seen them for sale ( i even rigged a crude version years before i saw it for sale at the motor show) is basicaly a small flshgun in your rear number plate light rigged to a slave ( the flash from the gatso sets of the flash from the numberplate light and critically over exposes the number plate) but gatso's with flash are becoming old technology and passive front firing digital cameras using video is becoming the norm.

    Detling 2005

Had a great time at my first show and so did my kids until they discovered the bungy trampolines, burgers and ice cream. Greatfull to Martin Pidd (Piddy) as i managed to tag along to 4 hoods all the way to Deitling. Came across this in the hall and though "B****r no getting away from that round the twisty bits" then i thought I wonder if enforcer would like 1 of these?

    Donar Vehicle V5

This will not apply to most but i bought a second hand kit with donor stripped, i changed owner of the donor to me and then thought about SORN, in the guidance notes on the SORN form it says "make a SORN if the licence expired on or after 31st Jan 1998" so i dont need to sorn. lucky me. The car is still on a V5 so i can change engine number as it is only that that they can realy check against the V5.

    Reciept Of Purchase

I could be up s**t creek with this one, i bought a second hand kit series 3 unstarted and 7 years old, I have a reciept from the owner and all the paperwork from the donor including reciept from scrap yard but nothing from RHE.
  17. My plans are to shorten the sump as per the NW Hoodies web site and to put 195-50-15's on. What i am trying to do is get the wheels in to the arches at the back without grounding the suspension mounts.
  18. I am ready for wheels and fittting the rear arches, I would like to have the wheels as high up in the arches as i can. I know that there are ground clearance problems, suspension travel issues and I would like a useable ride for the road. I have got spacers in the shocks that came with the kit ( about four washers ) and i can pre-load the springs. I have a view to fit 195-50-15's subject to best advise.
  19. Dry sump www.burtonpower.com £ 800 to start with, probably several hundred more to complete. I would look at having the sump modified first. NW Hoodies site has the modifications for a pinto sump and i would assume that the principle applies to a Zetec.
  20. just seen this on ebay, i suspect 4.27 is to short and makes 1st unuseable. Ford Granada 7.5" Diff, 4.27 ratio which has been fully reconditioned by Road and Race Transmissions in Kent with new seals repaint etc. In excellent condition. Can be used with push in driveshafts as in Sierra Type A or can be changed to accept Lobro driveshafts. I was going to put this in my Westfield but now need a different ratio. This item is advertised elsewhere so I may withdraw the Diff before the end of the auction. Carriage will be approx. £23 as the Diff weighs 28 kilos. On 17-Mar-05 at 09:39:04 GMT, seller added the following information:It has had 14ml machined off where the top bolt is fixed to enable it to fit a standard Westfield chassis which takes 7" Diff --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  21. thanks for the info guys keep it coming, With plans i have and if i secure the big valve head with a RL22 cam the 3.9 is the only way to go, in the mean time this year its on with the build. What i want to try and do is build in all the good ideas and best practice that i am getting from the club members. Salty i will e-mail you.
  22. I have my eye on 2 XR4x4's one saloon and one estate, 2L DOHC's, i will try and check the diff tags if i can. it will mean the complete backend has to be changed as i have slide in half shafts and drum brakes or can i just change the diff with the shafts and brakes, i.e does the 3.9 diff bolt strait in to the subframe?.
  23. Thanks for that but i have been there and it is scorpio specific.
  24. I am stairing at the VIN plate from a 1982 gl hatch 20l. the diff id box says V which from another hoodies info says 3.38 ( i really don't want a diff that long with the plans i have) Is this a 3.38? Also the Transmision box says F and i really really hope its an N (5 speed) not a B ( 4 speed ) i dont have the gear lever so i did think of that first ( second hand kit blues). any help and links please. Also any idea what the other boxes mean?
  25. 928 engine at the front gearbox at the back shorten propshaft and you have a mid engine configuration.
