  1. Time to kick off the new Year.   The East of England team are going to make use of the unexpected good weather next week.   A bit cold for a picnic so we are meeting up at the Orchard Cafe, Welland Vale Garden Centre (LE15 9EU) near Uppingham, (https://www.wellandvale.co.uk/), 12:00 on Wednesday (10th).   If anyone from out-of-area wants to join us, you are more than welcome, just let me know.

You know it makes sense 😀

  2. Sorry about the forum outage today.  Classic case of a software update going wrong.   We have restored everything from the last backup but it means we lost any inputs on Thursday.

So if you sent a message or posted anything on Thursday you may have repeat it.

  3. Happy New Year everyone.   Not surprisingly December was a very quiet month.   We lost 4 members but gained 2 new members.  Fair exchange 😀

So let's welcome  (Forum name, Location and Area Sec):

    DaveA76              Louth          Me

    Scott H-G             Welney       Me

Here't to a successful 2024 for the Club.

  4. Hi all

I have been sent details of shows in the East of England next year where we might have a Club Stand.   Obviously the Club will have a stand at Malvern and Newark, but these other shows will have minimum attendance numbers (usually about 5 cars) to justify a stand.   So if you think you might be attending any of these shows, please message me (alanrichey) to confirm which show you will attend (I suggest you don't reply to this post otherwise it could be overloaded).

If any other Area Secretaries have similar shows where we could have a stand, please post the details.

Then nearer the dates we will know whether to apply for a stand.

    1.    Classic Wheels Show - Rutland Showground (LE15 7TW)  - Sunday 19th May 2024

    2.    Baston Car Show - Grimsthorpe Castlel (PE10 0LY)  - Sunday 30th June 2024

    3.    Sywell Classic - Sywell Aerodrome (NN6 0BN) - Sat/Sun 21/22 September 2024   (Clashes with Newark)

    4.    Sandringham Pageant - Sandringham (PE35 6EN) - Sunday 26th May 2024

    Cheers

  5. Sorry for the late post but I've been on holiday again 😀

Rather surprisingly, considering we are in the off-season, November was one of the better months I have seen so far.    We only had 14 members up for renewal.    Unfortunately 6 members did not renew but the really good news is that we picked up 8 new members.  Great news.    So welcome to:

  6. Are you sure ?   This a quote from Car Builder Solutions (I know they are trying to sell their module, but I would be surprised if they weren't telling the truth:

    NEW IVA REAR FOG RULES

In June 2013 the rules for switching on and off your Rear Fog Lights changed.   Now, the Rear Fog lamps must only be lit when the Dipped Beam, Main Beam or Front Fog lamps are lit. The Rear Fog Lamps may continue to operate until the other lights are switched off. The rear fog lamps must then remain off, even if the other lights are switched on again, until they are deliberately switched on again. This is to prevent people driving off to work in the morning with the rear fog lights glaring after forgetting to switch them off the foggy evening before.

  7. 28 minutes ago, Bob Tucker said:

All the production cars ive driven can only turn on the fog light when the main or dip are on. As soon as you turn them off the fog light goes out too.

And as far as I'm aware, they must NOT turn back on next time the headlights are switched on, you have to have some sort of latching system.    Having said that, this requirement was introduced relativley recently so many of our cars to not need to comply.

OK, in hindsight I could have phrased that better.  Leaves me with an unforgetable image. 😀   Let's rephrase it to "....have now exposed their pages to ...."

  9. I can now report the good news that I received 3 volunteers.   RallyChris has voluntered to sponsor the 2B/2B+ page, niduncan, assisted by LeicsS3A will look after the SeriesIII/IIIA page and Sparepart is looking after the Exmo page.    As the Superspec page was already up I think that really leaves only the Lighweight, unless any one else has a different model ??

Chris and Nigel have produced the first drafts so I have now exposed them to the full membership, Christopher is still working on the Exmo page.

I don't want this be a one man task, so I would ask anyone that feels they can contribute a relevant article for any of the models to please pass it to the appropriate sposnor.

    Enjoy 😀

  10. October was a pretty standard month, although everything is understandably going quieter as winter draws nearer.  Of the 26 owners due to renew, 17 did renew and 9 cancelled.  More importantly we gained 5 new members, which is always good to see.  So we now have 335 members on the books.

    So welcome to:

  11. That is a very high price.   We normally reckon a properly registered and in good condition Superspec should go for between £5-6K.  It has a premium on a standard 2B as all the parts (except the reconditioned rear axle) were brand new at build.

if you test drive it check for the Superspec “clutch” rattle.  You will probably hear it when stationary, in neutral with the clutch pedal not pressed.   It isn’t a problem, mine has been rattling for 30K miles, but it might be a good basis for knocking down the price.

Have a look at my Superspec page on the forum (Useful Sites) on the blue banner) for details to look out for.  PM me if you want any detailed information.   You might also want to read my blog (See signature block below).

Where are you based ?  Might have someone close that you can take a look at.

  12. Today was one of those days when you remember why you didn't SORN the car over the winter.    A lovely drive to nice cafe in perfect weather (although the sat nav took me through the centre of Peterborough, and I was blinded by the low sun for the last couple of miles from home) followed by a nice lunch and the usual kit car discussions 😀.  It was an hour each way for me, slightly less for the others, just about perfect.

  13. After a lovely (warm) day out last weekend at the Corby Glen Sheep Fair it's time for the next meet.   Looking ahead, the weather on Tuesday 17th looks good for a run out.   As you may have noticed it's a bit chilly outside, so we will go into Winter mode and meet up at a cafe for a hot drink and snack.

I'm looking at the Harvest Barn (PE7 3DR) near Peterborough, arriving at about 13:00.   All are welcome.  Please let me know as I need to book a table.

    Cheers

  14. Lovely day out.  Weather just about perfect so we all had nice drives (1.3 miles in my case😀).  The fair was very busy and I reckon there were over 70 cars that came, they even had to open an overflow field.   So put it into your diary for next year.

Big thanks to Steve, Jim, Nigel & Helen for supporting it.

  15. 70C is a bit on the low side.  The normal advice is to run it 80C+ so that all the volatiles in the system boil off.   I think most of us run it even higher.  Personally I have an 88C thermostat and a 95C fan and the engine runs nicely at 90-93C.   The maximum temperature you want is just below boing point.   In my Rover system the cooling is pressurised so I can get away with 120C, although I would actually never let it get that high.

  16. I'm totally biased of course, having owned one for 10 years but I would offer the Superspec as the best model.   A few reasons:

    1.  It was the last model to be produced by Robin Hood Engineering so they could incorporate all the lessons they had learned from previous models (the front suspension springs to mind 😀).

    2.  Unlike other models that required a donor car for much of the parts, the Superspec came as a complete kit and everything (apart from the rear axle) was brand new.  So you know that every part in the car has done the same, known, mileage.  Particularly the engine and transmission, whereas a donor engine and transmission might be an unknown quantity.

    3.   Because it came as a full kit, most Superspecs are identical so there is a good read across with issues identified by other owners.  Other models will vary depending on the donor car.   And we have built a very extensive library of information on the model, based on owners experience and extensive research.

The downside is that for all these reasons the model commands a premium over other models of the order of £1000, but in my view it is well worth it.

Ready to be shot down now 😀

  17. Not one of our better months, but I guess it is to be expected as the season draws to a close.  Twelve members did not renew. However, the good news is we received seven new members.   So we welcome:

  18. Good.   I will probably park up around 0900 as I have only a mile to drive.   I tend to go into the field where I indicated and drive up to the road (A151) and park there. I will try and reserve a few slots, but this can be difficult.   Last year we all moved further up the road towards Bourne to stay together.  We'll see what happens.
