  1. Another nice day out. The joinup worked perfectly, plenty of room in the picnic area and the weather behaved itself overall, although 2 of us had a light sprinkle of rain when close to home. The Typhoon aircraft flying out of RAF Coningsby were enjoying themselves, making conversation a bit difficult on occasions, but it was nice to hear. I did a nostalgia run to my old house, which is still there and apparently untouched over the previous 50 years. Picture copyright of Mo
  2. Still time left for another outing. So our next one is a picnic at Tattershall in Eastern Lincolnshire, famous for it's castle (LN4 4LR). We are going on Wednesday 28th, it will be a bit of a nostagia run for me as I lived there for 6 months in the late 70s. We are aiming for about an hour run for each of us, meeting up at various places on the route between Grantham and Tatterhshall so we arrive together. If anyone else would like to join us then contact me for directions/details. Al
  3. A great day out today at Bletchley Park. Weather was great, if maybe a bit warm. A nice drive down, about 165 round trip for most of us. We arranged 2 rendevous points on the route to meet up and we hit them both bang on time so we all arived at Bletchley in formation. Amazing place, much bigger then we expected, with the main mansion and lots of other buildings all with specific uses in the crypto decoding process. Very interesting and we spent almost 4 hours looking around. Highly recommended. Thanks to Derek for the inspiration and organisation.
  4. It's working now, I just sent you a test message. Please contact me directly. I doubt any other member is interested in the problem. Cheers Al
  5. Your profile is flagged as not wanting to receive emails. I think you have to renable it. Check your profile details (Top right of page_
  6. At Derek's suggestion we have decided to have a proper day out on Monday (19th) and visit the museum at Bletchley Park. We have a couple of join-up points on our route from the north so some of us can arrive in formation. If anyone else wants to join us let me know and I can give you the details. We are aiming for a 10:30 arrival. Al
  7. What a cracking day. Perfect weather conditions. A nice run to Rutland Water. An empty (and free) car park and an ideal sitting (and picnic) area in the shade overlooking the water and watching the sheep and lambs. It's a hard life Al
  8. Now that Malvern has gone it's time to go local again. And we need to make the most of this weather. So we don't need a cafe/garden centre anymore, we can start having a picnic again. While I was walking round Rutland Water yesterday I found some 'hidden' car parks that are well off the beaten track. Not only are they quiet, at £3/day they are cheaper than the main ones (£4 for less than 2 hours). And even better news is that the pay machines are broken so at the moment parking is free (but bring 3 x £1 coins just in case they fix them over the weekend). So let's go for 13:00 on Tuesday 13th for our first summer meet. Don't forget to bring chairs and food/drink. I'll provide the weather. Here's the location, just take the South road at the Barnsdale crossroads, go past the Hotel, turn left at the bottom and follow the road to the car parks. Unfortunately there are sleeping policeman on the road but they are relatively gentle. Everyone welcome Al
  9. Unless it's changed from previous years we park/camp on his grass runway. So plenty of room.
  10. Also a big welcome for Steve, it was good of him to step forward. It's just unfortunate that no-one volunteered to be Events Secretary so we will have to continue with just minimal support for the official Shows. Al Richey (Membership Secretary and Webmaster)
  11. It's just an internal meet, organised by the Club, not an official Show, so no need to register, just pay and pitch up. Highly recommended. If it wasn't for the Stamford Show I would be staying all weekend.
  12. "Robin Hood Owners Club and Register". If we get a decent turnout I will get the organisers to change the name to "UK Kit Car Club". But at the moment I don't want to draw attention to us in case they notice we had only 2 cars last year
  13. I see that registration for the Show has now opened. Those of us who have been before should have received their invitations by now. Based on past attendance, we are normally allocated a Club Stand, but as only 2 of us attended last year, that may not happen this year. The other problem is that it clashes with the "Cars at the Farm' meet. However, for those of us (like me) who intend to just go to that meet for the Saturday, you can go to Stamford on the Sunday to make a full weekend of it. The numbers are limited so if you do decide to go I would get in early. You can register at https://stamfordcarshow.co.uk/ Remember to fill in the "Club" box so that we can maintain the Club Stand. (Still uses the Robin Hood name) For those who haven't been before, it's a nice Show held right in the middle of Stamford (Voted "Best Place to Live" a few years ago) so you can wander round the town as well as looking at the cars. While entry is nominally free, the event is run for charity and they suggest a £5 donation on entry to the field. If anyone has any questions, let me know. See you there Al
  14. A regular annual Car Show where we have a Club stand.
  15. May was an average month. We had 30 members up for renewal but only 16 of them actually renewed. But we got 9 new members to partially balance the loss and 2 members who came back after a few years away. To be honest I would always trade new or returning members who are hopefully keen to join in, with older members who probably gave up contributing to the forum or attending meetings some time ago. It gives us a very healthy total of 350 members. So I am very pleased to welcome all the new and returning members. Here they are, username, location and Area Secretary. 16. I’m in Estonia at the moment so can’t help Can you liaise with Kerry and Tractor to see what is practical/achievable? With no events Secretary anything we can get there is a bonus.
  17. According to the web site setting up the stand is allowed from Friday 12:00 and camping available Friday night
  18. It's getting closer to the National Kit Car Show at Malvern. This should be one of the highlights of the season and also we hold the AGM there so it is important people attend. I hope many of you are coming, but I have to apologise in advance for the reduced support we are providing. Despite numerous requests over the last year for a volunteer to fill the vacant Events Secretary position no-one has come forward. I have managed to arrange for the Club to have a stand, and for a room to hold the AGM, but as I am already holding 3 of the official posts for the Club I really don't have the time to take on the work of the Events Secretary as well. Please have a read of the Terms of Reference for the post (https://www.rhocar.org/index.php?/forums/topic/50463-terms-of-reference-for-club-officials/#comment-410611 and if you do decide to help out the Club by volunteering then please fill out a proposal form as shown in the AGM topic (https://www.rhocar.org/index.php?/forums/topic/50681-agm-2023/#comment-411746 Hope to see you there. Al (Membership Secretary, Webmaster & Area Secretary for the East of England )
  19. Bought forward 24 hours as the weather today was so good. A good run out and a nice lunch and then some obligatory tinkering on my car to try and release the gear change system (long story). Thanks to all. Al
  20. April was very much a mixed month. Of the 30 members up for renewal only a disappointing 18 members continued. On the other hand, my prediction of the improving weather attracting new registrations came true and we got a record (for me) 12 new & returning (after a few years away) members. So, our new & returning members are: (Username, location and Area Sec) Michael Perrin Ormskirk Darrell DavePro62 Dunstable AlanRichey (Return) Craig Morton Aberdeen soupstone Vic Poole Taunton apgodden (Return) Robert Taylor Waddington AlanRichey Rob.J Preston Darrell James Deveraux Hilpurton apgodden John Hawkins Maidstone Nelmo BullCrums (Alan) Sunderland alantoon (Return) Norfolk chris North Walsham AlanRichey (Return) Martin Derby andi Routely1985 (Martin) Tavistock Robbie 2B So welcome to all, and it's great to see the returnees. Although it's a shame to lose existing members, it is probably inevitable as people get old/ill and cars are sold. But it's very reassuring to see new blood coming into the Club.
  21. We have recently had a couple of members who moved house and hadn't received the latest magazine. They had updated the address in their profile and thought that was sufficient. Unfortunately we do not get a notification if changes to a profile so no-one knew of the move. So if you do move house then please let me know directly by either messaging me or emailing me at membership@rhocar.org so I can update the master database. Al
  22. Mine are anchored to the floor with a reinforcing steel panel underneath. I would be a bit surprised if the tunnel sides have the structural strength needed.
  23. After an enjoyable Stilton Cheese Run last Sunday it's time to look ahead. The weather next week looks good so we are going to meet up for lunch at one of our usual cafes, the Harvest Barn near Peterborough (PE7 3DR). Timing is 12:00 on Thursday 4th May. I will have to book a table, so if anyone outside of the East England area wishes to come please let me know Al
  24. I would like to think that anyone who parks on the stand and uses the facilities would also have supported the Club by joining it and becoming a member. But no one will check if you are a member, and all RH owners are welcome. So it’s really up to your conscience
  25. All the flags should be at Malvern, so you could grab one there. I shall be bringing one, the ball race is broken but it is still usable.
