    Running In.

I've got a rolling road session booked for Friday, and i was thinking the same thing! New head and cam on mine, with a refurbished bottom end. I've had it running in the garage quite a few times for 5-10mins at a time, and then up and down the road a couple of times. Going by what Ian said, i'm guessing a little power run up to 7k will be fine?
  2. Mine started off blue, smoked for a bit - now is white!!
  3. What dizzy is it? Will definitely bear this in mind!! I'm looking to keep hold of the bosch to run the engine in, but definitely wouldn't overlook a bargain!
  4. Thanks chaps! Will let you know how it goes..
  5. I'm in need of a couple of the white plastic spacers which go on the pedal box end of the cable... if anyone has them lying around it would be much appreciated!
  6. Adjusted the timing yesterday and it's running so much smoother, but the distributor is in question, it's the standard bosch pinto unit. £200 doesn't sound too bad, how have you found it? I'm off to a rolling road on Friday to have the carbs looked at, i'm thinking of getting myself a new dizzy beforehand...don't want to spend a fortune though...
  7. Thanks Peter, I'm actually off to a rolling road session on Friday morning and they have already ordered what they need in... Appreciate the reply though!

    Headlights

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/kit-car-headlights-/251661134074?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a982c28fa Just put these up. Only selling because I've downsized and got some new ones.
  9. Do you run a vacuum on the distributor Clive?
  10. Don't say that! haha I'm going to check timing Sunday if not any better, i'm booking it in for Friday!
  11. Will be checking this on Sunday - if all fails i'm booking it in for a rolling road session. The only reason i'm holding off of on doing this is that i need to run the engine in, loosen it up and then get it rolling roaded.
  12. Could my issue possibly lie with the timing being out? It's fine on tick over and reving up at a stand still, but as soon as i put it under a bit of load on acceleration it spits and splutters. it's fine further up the rev range. Obviously if the carbs are out then yes it will cause a rougher running engine but to the extreme of mine?
  13. Don't get me wrong I do 100% agree with you, and really appreciate everyone's input. I just thought if I aim for the correct Venturi size it will give me a good starting point! Just seeing if anyone had any lying around...aiming to get it booked in somewhere for next Friday.
  14. If anyone has any of the following for a pair of 45 DCOE Weber's laying around somewhere hidden in their garage...(preferably x4 of) Main Jets - 145mm Air Corrector Jets - 180mm Idle Jets - .50f9 Emulsion tubes - f16 Venturis (choke tube) - 38mm Aux Venturis - 4.5mm
  15. Would people recommend running an electric fuel pump to run with the webers?
  16. The car had it's first little outing up the road and back after 9 months of the rebuild. Iv'e put in a rebuilt 205 block in with a stage 4 head 44.5mm valves, kr33 kent cam, lightened and balanced fly wheel, 4 branch exhaust manifold, twin 45's. Few little issues I've noticed: I'm getting some crunching when going into reverse, and difficult sometimes to get into first. Not sure whether a new clutch cable will help or to just swap the clutch out for a new one. I believe it's a 1.6 clutch as well, as when i had the old engine out i was searching for a 2.0ltr and the clutch plate was massive compared to mine, so we stuck with the old one, which wasn't too worn. But it looks like that's coming back to bit me now! I got hold of a pair of 45's off ebay. They are spec'd with the following: Main Jets - 150mm 145mm Air Corrector Jets - 160mm 180mm Idle Jets - .55f8 .50f9 Emulsion tubes - f16 f16 Venturis (choke tube) - 40mm 38mm Aux Venturis - 5mm 4.5mm Trawling through websites and reading different posts, above in red are the sizes which have been recommended to me. Just wanted people thoughts really before i empty my wallet on new bits! Thanks in advance!! Couple of video's... You can hear when i drive off in the first video that it spits when in low rev, it seems to run better when revved high..
  17. I'll be looking to fit a larger tank soon as well, let us know how you get on with the Kit Spares jobby!
  18. Indeed it has. It's been on the road for sometime via previous owners. Since I've had the car from November last year, it's had a full rebuild, new engine, new carbs, new exhaust manifold, new exhaust, wishbone upgrade, new dash, new loom, new bulk head. I fitted the newly extended steering rack last night. When i took the car off the road i only intended upgrading the existing engine ready for this summer.... but then when things started coming off it was clear that the car hadn't been built to the highest standards at all - so one thing led to another and here i am! Hoping to MOT it next weekend and finally try and enjoy what's left of the light weather... (which i know won't be much!)
  19. I kept trawling ebay for 'classic' gauges and managed to nab a set of VDO's from a Lotus Eclat for £70! Had a speedo cable made up from cable tec fora about £30 http://www.cable-tec...acho_cables.asp
  20. Only changing as I've got two matching wire clips, thanks for the replies!
  21. Picked up a pair of refurbished calipers from Euro car parts a little while back, and just noticed they've given me a mismatching pair. There's an older version with different brake shoe securing springs. Does anyone know which is the later? I'm going back tomorrow to swap either caliper over tomorrow - just wondered whether there's any real difference and which one to go for! Pictures below show the difference in spring. Thanks
  22. I've just finished the wishbone conversion, so i've got a bunch of sliding pillar stuff that's redundant! I'm down in Berkshire though...
  23. Trying to drop the steering rack 20mm or so - as far as the rose joint will allow me before it hits the chasis. What have people used to to sit it on? Removed some 'lovely' odd lumps of metal that i don't intend on putting back in! Cheers
  24. No IVA to worry about, just wondered whether i'd get done at the MOT station. Very tidy job of the wishbone conv! Picked all my bits up from GBS yesterday, painted last night. Any advice and tips welcome! :-)
