    Rewire!

I completely understand this is going to be no easy task, but i'll only ever gain knowledge and the experience by doing it myself, even if i do come across some problems i am confident in the knowledge available to me i can crack it! I bought the car complete, but until i take it all to pieces and put it all back together i'll never be able to say the car is actually mine! That's the fun part of it - the driving is the added bonus at the end! Pictures below show what I'm up against, plugs which go nowhere, inch diameter bundled wires. The plan is to strip out exactly what isn't used, and start circuit by circuit replacing what's there... Suggestions and ideas would be appreciated!

    Rewire!

Embarking on the big rewire. Old engine out, new pinto in. My question is what rating wire will I need? I'm off to grab some reels this weekend.. cheers Simon
  4. Ok cool, thanks for the replies. I was a little suspect of it making it snappy, but if you get used to it and play it to it's advantages it could become a bit of a demon. But the shrapnel idea...ouch! Advice would be to go for a steel one then... Cheers Simon
  5. Anyone had this done? Is it worth the money or is just really just for racing etc... How much do you reckon i can expect to pay someone to carry out the works? There are some on fleabay for around £80... What are people's thoughts? Cheers

    Fuel Pump

I don't plan on changing mine, and I'll be running 45's...
  7. What oil pumps are you guys using? With a stage 4 ported head, standard con rod and pistons, twin 45's and 4 branch manifold, what oil pump am i looking for or would you recommend? I understand i'll be looking for the high pressure one, but high capacity as well? I've picked these out off of Burtons... http://www.burtonpower.com/parts-by-fitment-type/parts-by-engine-ford/ford-sohc-pinto/high-pressure-high-capacity-oil-pump-sohc-pinto-ft1055a.html http://www.burtonpower.com/parts-by-fitment-type/parts-by-engine-ford/ford-sohc-pinto/high-pressure-oil-pump-sohc-pinto-escort-cosworth-t25-ft1055.html Cheers Simon
  8. It's BACK! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ROBIN-HOOD-KITCAR-PROJECT-PARTS-TRACKCAR-GARAGE-FIND-BARN-FIND-/271380579618?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3f2f8b0522
  9. Thanks for the advice, appreciate the replies greatly! So either a high torque cam to punch mid range revs, or a 32 to give a much later punch throughtout the rev range, i think i'll go with a torque little number - if anyone wants rid of one!? Another question, does anyone know what jet sizes i'd need on the webers? I picked up a matching pair of 45's of ebay a couple of weeks back - came from Portugal! Very pleased with the condition, but looking to give them a good service. Many thanks, Simon
  10. My understanding falls short on the compression part! But what i do understand is that's when we start getting into the big bucks! Bigger pistons and rods to get anywhere near the 170 mark then... My plan was to leave the bottom end as is, I imagine this will be quick enough for my first go anyway!! The engine will be going in over the next couple of months, need to get the old one out first! The old engine has a KCFR 21 cam in already, this is the what they call an introduction Cam? So the KCFR 31 it is then. Looking forward to stripping it down though, the wiring is in a terrible mess, it's the whole Sierra loom so 1" diameter in some places!! This is my first kit car. Wanted one for a very long time! My dad built a dutton back in the day, before i was around!! So this one is a big learning curve for me, very excited by it all i must say!!
  11. And fuel pump, will it run fine with the mechanical?

    Singing Pinto

So yesterday I went up to Cambridgeshire to pick up a stage 4 cylinder head, 45.5mm inlet valves, double valve springs etc... very happy with it and can't wait to sit it on top of the 205, fully rebuilt with new pistons. Got it from a guy called Stan - works for Burtsmotorsport, very knowledgeable guy, offered me a lot of advice. As i'm not touching the bottom end, I've just got some arp con rod bolts on order to strengthen. So the set up will consist of 45 webers, the new cylinder head with a vernier pulley, a high torque cam (not sure which one yet!!) hear lots of people on here rave about the fr32? Is that a good one to go for? And a 4 branch manifold. Hopefully i'll be looking at about 170ish bhp - thoughts? With all of that, it'll be a used a mainly a road car, but with a few track days. Do you recommend an oil cooler? High pressure oil pump as well? Cheers, Simon
  13. I'm waiting for the buyer to sign up and introduce himself!
  14. 2.0lt pinto - standard Sierra gearbox, standard clutch - i think! lol Up through the gears is fine, but as soon as i try putting into reverse, you've got to really crunch it - it's horrible, i make a different face each time!! I don't know whether it's the clutch, like i said it's fine going up the gears - just putting it into reverse. Or the gearbox?! Anyone had anything similar or can shine any light? Cheers!
  15. It went from £700 to £6000 - he'll be gutted when he gets a bid retraction!

    Weber 45's

Will steer clear of that then, good old fashioned elbow grease it is then!!

    Weber 45's

Had the carbs delivered yesterday and am more than happy with the condition they are in. All the way from Portugal, the guy boxed them and stuffed it with polystyrene without plugging them - you'll see the remainder of the balls in the pics! Annoying!! Now to show them the love and care they deserve with new gaskets etc... Am i right in saying the 45's have the 200 needle valve? As i'll get one of these kits... http://www.dellorto.co.uk/merchandise/products_details.asp?PartNo=WE436&CategoryID=3&PartsectionID=102 just want to make sure i buy the right one! Also, a friend of mine has a caustic tank which could bring these up like new - that's if it's safe to put them in? Just the housing and trumpets... Thanks in advance! Simon
  19. Morning!! I'm in the middle of piecing together a new heart for my 2b. I've already bought a fully rebuilt 2.0 Pinto to replace the 20 block that's currently in mine, will be arriving tomorrow. Also purchased some twin 45 webers that i'm expecting next week. I've started to look at exhaust manifolds, and a 4 branch, twisted and bent to the right shape don't come round too often! But, i have found one :clapping:before i go ahead with it, i just wondered out of curiosity how much people have spent on theirs, second hand or new? Also any advice anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated. It's a stainless 4 into 1 system, looks to be in good condition and fit straight in without any modification - so it's a no brainer really! Once i have stripped it down, I will have a completely standard 20 block engine (runs perfectly) , zx6r carbs and exhaust for sale. Any ideas on prices i could expect? Thanks!!
  20. So from having a look last night the code appears to confirm the 2.0ltr. Trying to find out a little more about the engine, but can't match any codes to anything on this site http://www.burtonpow...ture-dates.html I've attached an image, can anyone shed any light!? Simon
  21. It's a 2.0ltr! Big old 20 stamped on the side. A little bit of rubbing down and cleaning is needed to make out the longer number underneath!
  22. Does anyone local to Berkshire know of a rolling road near by? Cheers
  23. Will check it out tonight! Thanks for the replies!
  24. Alan, Thanks for the reply, great to know you're just round the corner, will bare that in mind. I have a busy few weekends leading up to Christmas, but over the holidays i may take you up on your offer, would be good to meet and have a chat!! I'm not yet clued up on the car, i have a lot of research to do on the kit to get familiar with it. I will check over the engine this evening and look for the engine code...
